Anybody got or tried one of the handheld soda blasters available on ebay? they don't seem to hold much but wondered if they work. It going to be a while before I can get any parts blasted so for smaller parts I thought maybe I'd try one.
Thanks. Phil

I have one, courtesy of Alan K on here.
However I haven't used it yet, one of the local supermarkets used to do big bags of soda, but I can't remember which one. Had a good look around, but not found it in bulk anywhere local yet. Post lockdown, must get on it again.

I tried my Aldi 'grit blaster' over the weekend, and was reasonably impressed how it worked, It did need my bigger compressor for best reults obviously, and it wouldn't shift any greasey bits for some reason.
I tried it on some old and manky footrest hangers, it blasted most of the grubby paint/lacquer and furry corrosion off, good enough to paint over. Only used a couple of pot fulls of grit. It does go everywhere though. Used mask and goggles even in the garden.

Thanks, I may try the little soda blaster just for few small brackets that need blasting so I can paint.

Drill and wire wheel is far easier for the small stuff. In fact I also do petrol tanks with them for initial paint removal at times (ran out of stripper)

I have a couple of well and truly used hand held grit blasters
To stop the grit going everywhere, you can recycle it 4 or 5 times, do your blasting inside a tent, I use an el cheapo 3 man dome type
The grit falls on the floor and you sweep it up and put it back into the blaster, I wear a tyvek hood with a see through screen on it as well as TIG gloves
Using soda is a completely different ballgame, it coats everything white, including masks and above hood, ask me how I know, it stays in the air for a very long time and is nigh impossible to recycle
I think JonW posted a pic of what happens to a garage when you use soda, it’s really quite funny

I had this one and sold it on , Unless you have a very good big compressor than don’t bother as it needs lots of air and if you have any damp at all in the compressor then it will not work ,
I have a very good and big compressor and still never done what it says on the Tin , save your money and get a pro to do it ,
It also makes a big mess and you can’t see a thing or what your doing , But it’s your money just giving my opinion
