How do I go about checking it out With the ignition switched on ground the temp sender loom connector, the temp gauge should swing to the red. OEB

Hi, Take the single wire off the sender at the spade connector. Find a good earth somewhere to earth the wire from the temp sender. If the temp gauge goes up when you earth the wire, the gauge is working. There are "other" temp sender from other vehicles that work I read, cant remember off the top of my head, was it a Landrover one ? Steven.

Right just grounded the wire and the gauge did move
Very slowly though and when I released the wire, again it was slow to return but it did do a full sweep
So is the sender knackered then and does it matter that it is screwed into a remote thermostat ?
If so then need a sender with a straight thread , not tapered

Hi
Silly question but is the remote header thermostat housing grounded with a ground wire as if it is in free space connected to hoses there will be no ground hence no circuit
Best wishes Al

So shall I just make up a little ground wire and what area of the sender do I need to attach it to ?

Yes just run a wire from the metal thermostat housing to a good earth on the frame
Failing that you can always solder a wire to the hex on the sender as the ground maybe

Then to test if the wire is on the housing do your test again by touching the sender wire on the housing and if the needle moves happy days

Yes that would do it As for sealing you could alway try some pipe sealant or a couple of fibre or copper sealing washers Best wishes Al
