I have had this LC for many years and the engine needs rebuilding due to clutch bearing wear, so while engine was coming out, I decided to strip bike and build a replacement engine with the tie bar mounts. Also getting the mounts welded onto my frame as it is an early frame.
Fully stripped now. Only pic I have so far was near the start...

Looking great and love the colour too Post some pictures of the frame once you have got it welded for the tie bars if you can. My frame has some adapted tie bar mounts welded but I might change them as they are a bit on the heavy side.

yum, love the colour! Reminds me of the OG KTM Duke, the 97(i think?) version was in Aubergine. Lovely!

Looks like a slight change of plans, as frame and swing arm are up my mates unit awaiting welding...and I cannot go there.
Luckily, I have my number 5 bike project half done, so have ordered a new crank and will build that engine, but will fit the trick top end and radiator off number 7.
Frame already powder coated. Will find the JMC swingarm out and see if it will fit.
Will need to decide if I am fitting the blue/purple kit, or the pink kit.

Been stripping Number 7's engine today. Bore on one side looked mint with honing marks still nice. Other side must have had a small amount of debris as there are a few small grooves, but will leave them for now. Very limited blow by past 1st ring, so the hard run in must have worked :-)
Will add pics soon.

Just noticed on my PC monitor that I can see strange wear on bottom rings...anyone else seen anything like that. It was not evident by eye. Top ring looks to have sealed very well, so hardly any blow-by getting to 2nd ring.

No expander rings fitted, so perhaps that causes this wear pattern? Perhaps you get a better seal/wear pattern if they are fitted? Not done more than a few thousand miles since rebore.

The heads cleaned up just using brake cleaner and kitchen towel. Had been run on the cheap Exol Fully synthetic oil, so appears to be protecting the heads pretty well.

Finished stripping engine. Found the bearing behind the clutch was well fooked! You can move the middle about +/-0.5mm while the outside is held still. Small bearing on other end of the input shaft also has a little play.
Also found the little ball for locating the right hand outer crank bearing had become detached from the bearing and was just sitting in the locating groove, as was half the pin from the left outer bearing??? No evidence of spun bearings... I am using different casings and new crank, so not an issue.
All gears, dogs and selector forks look perfect, so they can go in the new engine.
