Why are there 2 types of main calipers shims, as i can`t properly assemble the right caliper as the shim is to thick. I have attached pictures the left is thinner approx .60 mm the right is thicker approx .80mm obvious difference the left has a hole punched into it. Any ideas. thumbnail_20200205_102144 by

thumbnail_20200205_100949 on Flickr Please forgive me if I am wrong, would it not make sense that if all parts are mass produced & are within limits, then there would be different sized shims to accommodate the differences in each part.

I know that there are two different design of 4LO calipers period, could there be a mix up with the shims you have??

Now you said that, it made me think, I have seen listings for calipers off XJ550 650 750 seca being sold as LC, they have a threaded hole in top caliper mount for a cover. You just don't know whats been changed over the years on old vehicles, almost right, but not quite. Could be bits of different calipers made up.

If you look in the Haynes manual these are the shim carriers, the exploded diagram shows the shims in between the caliper. I did pose a question a little while ago as to how they are measured, but nobody had a definitive answer

well i think i need another thin one as when you try and fit the sliding pin into the rubbers it is very hard to push the pin through making it jam the caliper so it wont slide.

Does the pin go through without the shim in place, if it doesn't, it could be bad rubbers, also red grease helps, just a couple of thoughts.

Did you powder coat the other caliper half? If so, powder coating thickness could be the culprit.

Yes, I seem to recall a packing piece between them? Is it made from a white material rather than metal? Or maybe thats between the back of the brake pads and their shim, can't remember now.

Problem solved borrowed from "benbeckett" a pair of calipers and looks like it is a early 4L0 caliper with later mounting bracket thats why it dont go together as it should, also pictures on rd350lc.net to confirm it top marks for info from xaviers website. thumbnail_20200207_122525 on Flickr Etrier4L0-3 on Flickr Etrier4L0-2 on Flickr Etrier 4L0 on Flickr

I have a early 4L0 and it has a little hole and a small spring under the shim. EU import. Are the shims flat? I found if there is any deformation or damage it makes the sliding bracket stiff.
