First run of motor after a apparent full rebuild, found loose flywheel nut and stripped stator mounting bolts, going to strip off clutch cover tomorrow to check primary drive & clutch nuts and find where this noise is coming from.

What with the issues you have already mentioned along with the rattly starter....I would be tempted to do a complete strip and investigation to the rest of the rebuild.. You say “apparent” is this a bike you have just bought

It`s a friends bike thats he`s just bought and I have the job of fixing it. so i`ll open it up tomorrow and do somemore checks and go from there hopefully no more suprises and it`s just a defective kickstart mechanism.

The kickstart mechanism has not been fitted correctly... The gear on the mechanism is touching the idler gear when the kickstart is in the up position.

If you are taking the clutch apart to check it, also check the end of the input shaft with the clutch removed for excess play, as the last two engines I checked were bad...

All sorted kickstart mechanism was not fitted properly, so now it`s time to repair threads to hold the stator plate to crankcases.
