Nice bike got a white one in a corner of my shed started doing it about 7 yr ago and never finished it will take a notion again one day, but what i wiil say is , what a tractable bike mine pulled reasonably well (for a 250) from 3k, you appeciate stuff like that when you get older. John.

What a fantastic restoration, we have all been there, endless hours in the garage, sourcing parts and asking favours. Congratulations, enjoy 👍 Never owned one, rode a few, snappy and raw powerband, and woeful breaks. No wonder it was called the coffin tank.

Brilliant job! Apart from decals what are the differences between a MK1 and MK2? I thought the X-7's were just one single production...

Brilliant job! Apart from decals what are the differences between a MK1 and MK2? I thought the X-7's were just one single production... Alex I know the mark 2 had hideous clocks, I think the same as on the GSX250 Butt, spoiled the bike, bad choice by Suzuki, they just didn't look right IMO.

I just remembered some more things that are different on MK2 + 3
rectangular front master cylinder and different handle bar switches, not sure if both or just left side.
Got to agree, I wouldn't want the mk3 either, mk2 at a push but mk1 is the most desirable to me, I had a blue 1 and a white 1, they are wheelie machines.

Does anyone know the release years for the three models? Not sure myself as I was always a Yamaha fan in those days. Still am these days!

I think I can help a bit, GT250E or N (mk1) 1978 there was a spoke'd wheel version too, I think that was the E and alloy wheel N GT250EN 1979 (mk2) rectangular front master cylinder and different handlebar switches GT250EX 1981 (mk3) horrible GSX clocks & square indicators as well as above master cyl and switches and square mirrors, I am almost certain it was both switches Sorry I can't be certain as this is from memory and what Russ said, don't know about decals changes though

3 versions? Did they do any carbs mods or exhaust changes as well or was it all cosmetic?

Alex Don't know, I may be wrong about dates, but I remember the changes, there was another too MK1 had straight brake clutch levers, mk2 on had dogleg levers. There is probably more, I am sure someone else will be along shortly with the correct dates if I am wrong. MK2 may have been 1980

Had an X7 as my first bike to get me started in my first job. Never knew there were any differences at the time,(apart from colours) someone also mentioned exhausts in an earlier post, what differed there??

With regards to exhausts I think they were the same except the mk1 has different clamps between the headers and the cans and i think the ones on mine are from a mk2
