Hi all Bit more self isolating this week๐ Front end now complete with rebuilt calipers and venhill hoses Front end is starting to look pretty tidy (shame about the rest but it is a Honda๐๐) Next job is now to learn how to build a spoked wheel so I can replace the original rusty rims and spokes with nice and new alloy rims and stainless spokes plus replace those old tyres with new rubber too๐ But I guess I will have plenty of time on my hands to watch tutorials and learn Stay safe all in these times. Best wishes always Al

Hi Steve Yes I did think of getting them built but I like a challenge But bit like the clock tools I made to restore the speedo and tachometer I have built a nice wheel jig with cone locations for the wheel bearings etc to make the job as easy as possible rather than trying to bodge something together Just need some time and patience and it should all come together ๐ And nothing beats that โI did itโ feeling Catch up soon Best wishes Al

Can your dog use spanners too or just the screwdriver?

I think the pup is looking at the front end there...they can smell if a wheel bearing has gone you know.

Thanks guys for the ๐๐๐ Itโs guys like you and your projects that spur me on with the confidence to have a go rather than shy away. And to be honest without this forum and you guys and some others (too long a list but you know who you are) that gave me the confidence to complete the yellow rd project almost all by myself Now into the back one๐๐๐ But I think the rear hub going to take few hours to clean up first Stay safe all Best wishes Al

Liking the bike. brakes, tyres and wheels and then run it. Davis Silver stocks nearly everything for the 400/4. I notice that you have an apprentice helping?
Is that Webley hawk mk 3 on the wall?

Hi all Just been doing some small sideline jobs on the bike this weekend while I sort out the replacement cush drive bushes Restoring the rear foot pegs as they are very tatty Ordered new rubbers and when disassembled found the little spacer plates missingโน๏ธ Like some other small parts they are no longer available but not to worry as itโs was an easy job to print up two replacement on the printer in black nylon and the bonus part is they wonโt need painting๐๐ One job down but more to go. Will try to sort out cush rubbers ASAP before they start to stop delivering stuff so I can build the back wheel Catch up again soon and stay safe all Best wishes always Al

Whey hay!!! If at first you donโt succeed use a bigger hammer and some brute force๐ But thatโs the Cush drive bonded bushes removed from the rear hub (and not a blow torch in sight)๐๐๐๐ Replacement bushes now on order so itโs all full steam ahead!! Catch up soon Best wishes Al

Did you manage to find another supplier for the bonded bushes Al or was it a painful call to Silverโs? Well done in getting the old ones out without knackering anything up๐ Loving this thread bud, keep it up ๐

No
In the end went thru the pain and ordered from Dave Silver as they are longer than a standard 26mm Od 12mm bush which has a standard length of 25mm but the Honda ones are 30mmโน๏ธ
But I guess they will never need replacing again๐
But darling wife said why donโt you order some of your other bits you wanted too just in case the post is stopped and you are off work so you have stuff to do in the garage so bill was a bit bigger than just the Cush bushes ๐๐
Catch up soon and stay safe
Best wishes Al

Hi all Not much done over the Easter break but sorted / cleaned up the rear hub so itโs a bit more tidy than before Before After Did not want to go too OTT and looks nice just like this without it being too bling ๐ All it needs now are some new wheel bearings, and press in 4 new cush drive bushes when the D silver order arrives and then should be able to start lacing up the back wheel Catch up soon and take care all Best wishes Al

Hi all Just a quick update on progress on the CB400F Fitted nice new shiny rear number plate holder to replace the rot one Also never liked the motard exhaust so splashed out on a stainless Delkevic exhaust Finally also done a complete service on the engine oil and air filters, plugs, tappets etc and even removed the sump pan to clean out 40 years of oil sludge and gave the oil pump pick up filter a good clean out too as gauze was very grotty too Now just need carb balancing Plus new tubes and tyres and a mot (once the local bike shop is back open) and she all done for now until next autumn when plan will be to pull out engine for a complete rebuild and spray tank and side panels and finish other cosmetic items Really please with the result so far and with that exhaust the โmild Hondaโ should be a bit of an anti social hooligan๐๐ Catch up soon and stay safe all Best wishes Al

Did you free off the cam chain adjuster?
Bit of an odd design, mounted at front of engine, but pushes on a U shaped object that goes round and tensions the blade at the rear of the engine. Got a habit of gumming up. Then forcing the tensioner does for the threads...
