Well, Ive my own tale of woe with VW where i needed a new engine and two clutch changes to get my brand new car to 27,000 kms (15k miles ish). Plus all the poorly built trim and bits that fell off, including a stuck fuel filler door. Ive never been so glad to be rid of a car. I wouldnt buy a VW/Audi product ever again (ive had 7 or so since the 80s) and that stretches to all German cars now.
I'll stick with Japanese (and only those made in Japan) - at least their culture is one where factory workers take pride in what they do before handing on to the next stage of production.
The problem is that we are swayed by magazines and TV reviews that tell us how great something is, and they dont lie really cos it is... but only while you only have it for 3-7days for a roadtest. Its the constant niggles and faults that wear you down, especially when a dealer takes weeks (months at times) to repair things and then damages it while in their care and denies they did it.
Jason's Honda thing was just stupid. the bike had 75km on it... and I believe the part they supplied was the same as the one that came off, so whats the chance that will happen again then? hmmm
I'd quite like an Ur Quattro, but having 3 AWD saloon cars would be tough to swing with the Mrs lol... tho she is keen on the new Jimny Alex, its pretty old school under the hood luckily... we'll see.

Well my experience with japs wasn't much better had a honda accord tourer diesel back when they first came out went thru 3 sets of alloys due to corrosion went in for a service and came out with a dented wing, denied, was crap on fuel couldnt get it past 40mpg my van was doing 74mpg at the time and it was the worst handling car I've ever had looked good tho the caddy van had a 150pd engine and a chip 200 bhp! The a8 does 37mpg and that's on an island full of hills twists and no motorways, a dealer mate told me a few years ago that any bike below a 600 made by honda is made in India dont know about cars tho, anyway I hope the big manufacturers get their acts together in 2020 and stop mucking people about they are only shooting themselves in the foot bad news spreads fast these days.

Not that I could afford or want any new car nowadays but they all seem to be getting worse, none of them seem to be well built or built to last shall we say.

Nowt wrong with a Jimny unless you want to do some serious off roading. The transfer case is a load of crap. All the owners I know have bolted in Suzuki SJ ones, it's a straight swap. And yes the engine is pretty basic electric wise but it is fuel injection (good thing) but has an ECU and air con etc (bad thing when it goes wrong!)

Thank god for that, 2019 has ended, as some of you know it was an awful year for me and my family and seriously impacted my ability to not only get work done, but even get logged onto the site for a bit of banter - looking at a few of the posts, it seems I've missed a few interesting posts! Anyway, I am starting 2020 with a fresh outlook and eager to get back on track, I've got lots of jobs backed up and loads of my own stuff I want to get on with I'd like to thank everyone who sent their thoughts and wishes and provided words of encouragement when times where tough, anyway, I am back and hopeful that this year will be much better (surely it couldn't be worse than last year !) So I am back to work today, loads of emails, text's, phone calls and other stuff to wade through and I am planning on being at Newark on Saturday if any of you guys are going I'll hope to see you there for a catch up and a natter If you've been waiting on me to reply to messages, emails etc, I can only apologise, but promise things will be better going forward now that the family is sorted (hopefully, fingers, toes, legs and everything else crossed!) I'm with you on that Dave, 2019 was a b*stard for me and many others I know, glad to see the back of it. Hope 2020 is far better for you, me and everyone else who was blighted by 2019.
