b*****ds are doing over garages in my street they are cutting their way in using battery grinders, a neighbour got done last night they took his very expensive mountain bikes and left his fazer and trackbike ,so I’ve just been out and added more locks not that they are any good against a diamond cutting disc,I’m not allowed to arm my alarm mine yet as she might need to go in there later

I had some uninvited guests a couple of weeks back, got some cameras fitted now, they send me a notification when they are triggered, got my cricket bat ready for action.

Jess in case you ever have to use the bat, have a cricket ball close to hand as well. just in case the police ask why you had the bat so close. I keep a 3ft breaker bar and a small tool kit by the door. Just in case I need to break some nuts off in the night

The law in Scotland may be different though, England wales if you are defending yourself eg they are armed with a diamond cutter allows you to defend yourself. I have large dogs and my hatchet because I have a wood fire.

Oh that reminds me my hatchet is very sharp No , you need a blunt rusty one with just the hint of cat shit on it. Had the buggers in my lock up the other year they had a good beak about i became very paranoid . Made a ground anchor and bought a length of peewag 14mm chain and had two bikes fixed to ground with that and the other two with cable locks and disc locks locked to them . yes i know you can cut through the stuff with a grinder but these folk want to be like church mice . This chain is harder than the jaws on bolt cutters.

Have they told anyone where they are going? New concrete floor laid any electronic device disposed of several miles away. Bobs your uncle.

Got our car nicked early on monday morning. Got in the house and took wifes bag with the key in it. Caught them 3 hours later. Car was full of stolen goods. Still impounded while they do forensics on it. Three teenagers in the car. One was 14.

There is no comeuppance for thieves these days, so why not steal things they think. If instead of yet more suspended sentences and community work they had a finger lobbed off so we could all see they were thieves they might think twice... at least after 5 goes they might not be able to carry as much or wield a grinder. Vote for me... hmm... I just watched Years and Years so actually maybe you shouldnt lol.

This chain is harder than the jaws on bolt cutters. that chain is good stuff, but they are now using cordless rebar cutters that will go through 16-20mm of rebar like butter. all we can do is make it difficult and slow them down coz if they really want it they are going to take it.

Keep a good sized CO2 fire extinguisher handy, the shock of you using it will stop them dead in their tracks plus they won’t be able to breathe for a short period. Then spray them with all the things we bikers have to maintain our beloveds, engine cleaner, muck cleaner, paint, Deox etc etc

I have one of these www.milenco.com/products/security-1/snaefell-lock-22mm-chain-1-1-1-1A proper deterrent is what's needed not a 50p padlock from B&Q If they get through that then good luck, I'm not tackling you. I pay insurance so why risk getting battered. You have to realise these people are seriously violent. They want your bike and they don't want to go to prison.... Lets be sensible here no one should tackle a criminal carrying bolt croppers or a grinding machine. Moped thieves being beaten off by an old lady with a shopping bag is one thing, but professional thieves are something else.

A customer of mine, in a different life many years ago, had a kiosk at the local bus terminus
He got sick and tired of the little sh1ts breaking into his shop at night so he put a live wire attached to the steel roof beams
They got a hell of a shock
True story, he didn’t get many issues after that
Another thing a council ranger taught me was an interesting play on words, it was a Beware of Dog sign on my back gate, I had Doberman’s at the time and the two adults didn’t really take kindly to any one who tried to come through the gate, with the sign, or over the back fence
He advised to change the sign to Be Aware Of the Dog, Beware means that you are admitting the dogs are vicious and you open yourself up to legal action should the intruder be attacked, Be Aware means you are letting the intruder know that there is a dog, if they get bitten they have less recourse as you have advised them beforehand
Keep your toys safe

Have they told anyone where they are going? New concrete floor laid any electronic device disposed of several miles away. Bobs your uncle. Better than concrete floor , i live near the Forest of dean . Take them out for a drive there and leave them off one of the tracks . Place has a good load of wild boar and i understand they eat the lot bones and all . As you say these folk don't tell any one where they are going. If they end up missing too bad .

Years ago I worked as an alarm engineer
Couple of nice things spring to mind
Fog cannon - expensive at a grand but but if you think a CO2 fire extinguisher is good these are next level
Couple that with some high powered strobe lights and you can laugh at them trying to run away while temp blind.
Master blaster siren - shot gun cartridge is good but a single bang.
Remember the first time fitting one and it said it was 80 db and thought that wasn't that loud till I read @ 1km. They are 127db at 1 metre. Try that in a single garage 🤣

Hi Maybe as a compromise just cut off the thumbs as you cannot hold much without your thumbs 😉 Just try eating your dinner using just your fingers to hold a knife and fork😀😀 Its what the romans did if you refused conscription as you can no longer hold a sword without your thumbs or anything else without this vital digit Best wishes Al

WTF Ken?! Why on earth do you have to pay to get it back when the police held onto it?! The crims need to pay that, not you mate.
The world is f**ked up now (with a capital F). Its just silly. The cops charge us to release our property and the kids who stole it will get nothing and be at it again as soon as they get home. Something needs to change.
FWIW usually the insurance company wants to have the car for assessment between the cops releasing it and you getting it back and often the write it off down here in NSW. They just dont want to give it back to you and in a few month you claim a new engine or gearbox cos they crims did some damage to it while driving it, especially its its a circa $10k or less car as the bill for the driveline is too much to bear for them, easier to be shot of it and it be gone from the roads etc. Total waste as cars written off cannot go back on the road here, even if not damaged.

Fair few burglaries on our street over the last month, gained access via patio doors to a house about 10 up from me, took car keys and took his S3 My garage to me is pretty secure, but even them just trying to force entry would cause damage that's gonna cost, Must admit it worries me now.

Unreal Jon. I tell ya . One copper said insurance will cover it. Yeah $600 excess to start with plus as you said it will be inspected so even a longer wait. We had no say about the car being impounded. Just lucky it was found 500 metres away, but had travelled 11 km's. Full of stolen gear and caught 3 kids in it. The copper said they found wifeys handbag but ended up being in a different stolen car. Seems to be the world we live in now as you said.

In my line of work, I meet all sorts.
Got chatting to a police officer; in short she said, “we hardly police anymore and rarely investigate. Theft is low down priority, just log. Only domestic violence we follow up, due to the fear of being sued if someone is further injured. We are becoming social workers these days dealing with chavs, work-shy and shite heads. We are neither pro or reactive.”
My neighbour had his Fazer, stolen this year, and it was secure. Police said “nothing we can do, we know the gang and we suspect it’s now in a container on its way to an Eastern EU country.”
What a joke.
I like the fire extinguisher idea, I have a spare one in my office.
