Hi all
Yes I know itโs a diesel but has anybody got or restored a Honda 400F super sport ?
Planning to get on with the Tigcraft hybrid after Xmas now the house is done but always had a hankering for one of these as a stable mate
I guess spares is not too much of an issue due to companies like Dave Silver but just putting some feelers out and trying to find out a bit more before maybe taking the plunge to take on a non runner for a complete rebuild just like the yellow RD
And advice welcome
Best wishes Al

The 400 Four? Cool bike. A mate had a red one ages ago and I rode it a few times. Fast, handles well, reliable. Prices seem high these days for a good one so well worth restoring I say. Funny thing is after he rode my 350LC he sold his Honda and bought...a 350LC!

Ever considered a VFR400
The 400 4's have always been a neat bike and are smooth as, suspension tweaks went a long way to improving them

I remember the 400/4 with the Yoshimura 460 conversion and their 4-1 pipe, sounded awesome and went well too. Nice bikes. I hope you find a decent one, a few for sale.

Hi guys
Thanks for the words of encouragement
Yes the 400f is one of those cool bikes I have always wanted to own
Mate when I was a teenager had a yellow canary one with a dolphin faring cibe headlamp conversion Boyer electronic ignition and a modified cam chain tension system
And yes it had the oh so sexy four into one exhaust๐
Will let you know how it all works out
Best wishes Al

I've restored a couple. You can get pretty much everything, but they can work out expensive, as there are 4 of many bits.
Cam runs direct in head, so if oil changes missed, or run low on oil, then cylinder head takes a beating.
Helped a mate with one a few years ago, at that time you could only get 1 size (black) main bearing shells. But I think they can run up huge mileages before you need to worry about that.
Cam chain tensioner is a piece of crap, design wise. But then it is a H***a.
Check frame by rear shock mounts, they can rot.
The last one I bought, 2006 ish I think, cost me less than ยฃ50 from a trader. Looked like it had been used as a boat anchor mind you.
Only wanted a few spares from it.
Noticed it had huge carbs on it (GS850 I found out in the end)
So stripped the engine for a look.
Big pistons and paper thin liners.
VTR250 rods
Yoshi Cams & vernier sprockets, with oversize valves.
I reckon it had been built for racing but disguised as a 400. Can't quite remember, but it worked out to somewhere over 500CC I think.
Sold it and a pile of other spares to a lad who was going to build it. Never heard of again...

They all had 4-1 pipes...it's that curvy shape of the downpipes that make them look so cool!

Hi all Just a quick update and thanks to all for all the advise. After a very late night and a quick final bid got my base project 400F๐ Looks like a nice clean bike with a bit of history and the current owner seems a nice guy Plan now is to get it back via Mikes bike couriering service and run it for the spring while I get all the nice new shiny parts including a new yoshi pipe ๐๐๐ (Just to upset the neighbours plus the yoshi pipe sounds the dog danglers and make me feel like a rebellious teenager again๐๐) then tear it down and complete a full restoration in canary yellow similar in style to this Catch up with you all soon and will keep you all updated on the diesel section Best wishes and merry Christmas Al

Thanks guys
Yes makes a change to start with an โon the roadโ bike as a base for a restoration rather than resurrect a wreck back from beyond the grave ๐
Merry Xmas to you all Al
