although my DT ran fine in the summer I noticed during the colder weather that the engine will stall at low revs when the horn button is pressed. Wondering if the following could cause it 1) bad earth connection somewhere 2) old horn taking to much amp demand 3) the charging coil is past its sell by date

My thought would be its shorting out somewere. check youe switches and connections as well as the earthing points and see where that gets you.

I wouldnt have thought battery as these bikes will run without one. my rd125lc has had a flat knackered old bAttery on it for 5 years, still starts and rides without any problems

Well, it does sound like the battery as its worse in cold weather. Else something that shorts more when its damp...

I was planning to run an additional earth system as the DT loom only earths via two connections where the coil bolts to the frame. As the frame was powder coated the earth feeds through the bolt threads etc

Maybe 10A. A bad battery has a high internal resistance. Voltage drops to possible 8volt and the generator coils are working overtime. Try ro start your rd125lc while pushing the horn button. Please post results

Tried starting with horn button pushed. Starts okay ? Always have to fiddle with choke a bit when cold to get engine rev cleanly
