Good job on the forks, I am wanting the same done on mine I'm using fzr400 41mm forks in mine and need about 50 mm taken off the length. Hopefully try to find a local engineering place that can do it after this lockdown thing lifts.

Hi everyone, I finally got the chance to do a bit more on the build, been working on the top yolk adding bar clamps it's a bit of a pain with the TZR top yolk as it's not flat. IMG_20200409_174146 by Chris, on Flickr First i had to mill out the webbing on the underside. IMG_20200424_181704 by Chris, on Flickr I then welded some solid alloy blocks in the back to give me the thickness i need. IMG_20200501_150713 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_152452 by Chris, on Flickr I then got it mounted flat on the mill and i worked out my centers and plunged cut straight through with a 12mm cutter. IMG_20200501_165944 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_170045 by Chris, on Flickr You can see in this pick i spun some bosses up and machined them at the angle of the top yolk so the clamps will sit square. IMG_20200501_170103 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_165912 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_165922 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_194056 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_194040 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_194051 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200501_194126 by Chris, on Flickr I had to machine a flat on the underside so the nut sits flat, they bolted up lovely. Im really happy with the position and how they feel with the bars in place. I've not had much chance to work on the bike recently as im still working on the new workshop which will soon be done. Then i can crack on with the build, im excited to get it moving to the next stage which will be mounting the clocks...somehow! Thanks Chris

Nice solution Chris Tzt top yokes have caused me the same issue in the past, and I bought handlebar clamps off ebay and my engineering guys cut a chamfer on the bottom, same as you have done. As for clocks, could you not replicate the standard mounting points found on the aircooled and Lc top yokes ? A bit of alloy tube welded on, and shaped if necessary, plus you could fit a proper rubber damper each side, for the clock bracket, again, as found on standard set ups. Dusty

Dusty hi dusty hope your well ,yes i have the stock top yoke, and was thinking about cutting the mounting lugs of and welding on to the tzr yoke like you say the rd rubber mounts can then be used .. ill have a little look and work out

I was gonna say I've got an old Lc top yoke you could have used, but if you have the original, it's the same. Easiest, and best option I think Dusty

Hi everyone it's been a while ,I've been so busy with the new workshop, patio,, working etc š so tonight I dug the rd out and bolted it all back up to see where I got with it .Made me happy to see it again and I can't wait to crack on with it , I'm still not 100% struck on the seat ,it's been a bugger to get it right but it's growing on me the more I see it ,never know I might change it yet but for now it's staying . I took some pictures for you guys love to hear what you think š I'm fully open to criticism and ideas I know it's not to everyone's taste ,but it is a special after all š 00000IMG_00000_BURST20200722211959763_COVER by Chris, on Flickr 00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20200722212020271_COVER by Chris, on Flickr 00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20200722211738492_COVER by Chris, on Flickr 00100dPORTRAIT_00100_BURST20200722211831550_COVER by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200722_212043 by Chris, on Flickr

Hi Chris Great to see you back on this mate I think it looks great You don't see many aircooled specials, in fact, many aircooleds at all nowadays ! I love the blocky looks of the coffin tank Rd's - very much "of their time" and you are making a great job of yours. Seats are always difficult to get right - I think one of the hardest parts of a special , and it's very obvious when you look at some bikes where the seat has been a problem for the builder. Yours looks good though I think. I kept a standard, albeit reshaped seat on mine for that very reason. Race seats can look great but offer no comfort and aren't a sensible addition for a bike covering miles on the road. Subtle mods make a big difference, and keeping the oil tank and side panel is a good move too. And it's your bike, so build it your way. It's great to do something different to the norm . You cant be far off the final stripdown now ? Dusty

Yep the seat was a pain I cut the lip if the back of the tank just so it sits nice ,so I'm going to work with it like you say it's my build nice to be different! .I'm not far off gotta sort battery box few tabs for bits , under tray ,few other bits ,I'm keen to move on with it ,šš

Nope nowt I would change think it looks fabulous Iām a big big fan of the type of bike we used to see in PBs readers specials and I reckon that nails it. Iām about to start my build shortly on the ac framed flat tracker Iām using tzr forks but tdr yokes precisely so I can mount bars.

Hi ,I made some nice progress today took the bike to work to make the under tray , brackets,CDI bracket it took most of the day time fly's !! It all worked out well good ol' cardboard cut out for mock up ,then made tray from 3 mm alloy ,made and welded the brackets drilled and tapped M6 ,the I had to find a place for the cdi made a nice bracket cut a bit of 30x30,box section spliced it welded some nuts underneath and welded it in ,fits and work a treat ! Just need to secure the battery now but thats another day ! The alloy tray will be Powder coated black with the frame , thanks Chris š IMG_20200801_102010 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_115948 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_143601 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_143626 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_151920 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_151926 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_154606 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_154612 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_155118 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_155528 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200801_155551 by Chris, on Flickr

The undertray looks great Chris And thank goodness someone invented the Lithium battery ! Makes creating a special all the more easier when you don't have to contend with housing a bulky lead acid house brick battery "somewhere else" !! I couldn't decide whether to polish or powdercoat black my ally undertray, but in the end I went with polished. There is quite a lot of black on mine, plus I thought muck and stone chips would soon spoil the finish of paint, so I decided a polished finish would be easier to maintain. Looking like you are nearly ready for final strip ?? Dusty
