You have an uncanny knack for making everything look slick and silky smooth. The coils just blend into the lines thanks to a simple bracket. Incredible.π

Taking a while to see how things are going to work in your head is definitely working then. Every part of this build just looks right, so much so that it makes you think ' why didn't I think of that'?
Then you realise it isn't obvious and it isn't simple. It looks that way because that's how you make it look.
Something only the exceptionally skilled can do.

Hi everyone I've got the week off work , yay!! Bike time!! ,I've been bracing up my swing arm with some gussets I fabricated , probably won't do much but I think it looks cool π,and it gives it a more unique style I think ,I also made up some lugs for the bobbins for a paddock stand ,had some old bobbins so used them for reference and they work well , I'll be back out there tomorrow cracking on with some more πChris IMG_20200915_174906 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200915_174847 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200915_174818 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200914_131649 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200914_140952 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200914_152352 by Chris, on Flickr Here it is sitting on the paddock stand nicely !

Brilliant. I wish I could weld a fraction as good as you. Will be getting some practice in again soon. Loving this build and write up, always looking forward to the next instalment. Hopefully you have another in the pipeline ready for when this one is complete.

Had another good day today ,I sorted the lock stops , nothing fancy just welded a block of bright mild steel on sorted I also filled in the hole where the steering lock was, shaped some steel up welded it in and cleaned it off and you would never know !!! I also welded a bracket on for the rear master cylinder pot ! I saved some lugs that I cut off when de lugging so I used one of those, it's got a nice shape pressed into the lug so it looks original! Fitted the rear caliper and a temporary brake pipe and bled it up !! And it works brilliant it's the first time I've tried the caliper since making the retaining plate and there's no binding at all happy days !! need to get a brake pipe kit and try to make my own up for the rear as it's very short , thanks Chris π IMG_20200916_094455 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200916_124319 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200916_130311 by Chris, on Flickr

nice one chris, the bracing on the swingarm looks good, hopefully it will be a benefit.
making up brake lines is easy, orientating the banjos when tightening can be tricky imo.

Hi everyone , received a yss rear shock from mutt's today great fast service!! As you can see from my picture it doesn't fit in my bracket that I made to take a stock LC shock ! Obviously the LC shock bracket has more play side to side and when I made my mount to suit the shock I made it tighter! The yss shock top bush is wider than the LC top shock bush but must still work in a stock LC , so I'm going to have to re make my top bracket not a issue as I'm going to change it and press in st st top hat bushes so it will be better in the end ,bit of a backward step but nevermind! Watch this space βΊοΈ Must make it clear there's nothing wrong with the yss shock it's my top mount I fabbed up is too tight !! ,Chris π IMG_20200923_185047 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200923_191838 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200923_194130 by Chris, on Flickr

Are you doing a hydraulic clutch conversion Chris ? Dusty well spotted dusty ,I'm not sure !! I'm thinking about it ,we have spoken about it a few month's back. That cylinder on the bench is off a fzr 1000 I was at my friend's last week and I spotted it in his garage so I took it just to mock it up !! ,What you think worth doing ?? π

I did it on a previous 400 build. I used a Triumph sprint slave cylinder, braided line and a Yzf750 master cylinder. The fiddly bit is getting the length of the push rod correct. I cut part of a spare cylinder head bolt off (the lower end with the thread inside) and had it welded to the clutch push rod. This meant I could fit an adjustable short rod so I could fine tune the clutch actuation. All depends on how you feel your clutch action is, as to whether you go to the effort, all though it does look trick ! I will find some pics Dusty

Found some pics. Triumph Sprint slave with one mounting lug cut off so it would fit on the case, with a 3mm alloy mounting plate; clutch pics 006 (1) by dusty miller, on Flickr The pushrod mod - a short rod would screw into the threaded boss on the main rod, and could be turned in or out as needed, with a locking nut to hold it in place. Haven't got a pic of the short rod and nut, but you get the idea !; clutch pics 005 (1) by dusty miller, on Flickr DSC00049 by dusty miller, on Flickr Cant find the close up of the master cylinder, but you can zoom in on this pic; very last 400e pics 008 (1) by dusty miller, on Flickr Other slave and master cylinders will fit I'm sure - I followed a thread someone had done on the aircooled forum at the time Dusty

Hi everyone!! Been working on the rear indicator lugs, I cut them from 3 mm mild steel flat ,shaped them up welded them on I'm chuffed with them!! I got some cheep e bay indicators ,took me ages trolling through looking for some I like ! Found these and they fitted the bill ,I'll see how they look when it's together ,they can always be changed I wanted to get the lugs on as I'm getting close to getting the frame swinger powder coated!!! Exciting times π Chris IMG_20200924_191716 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200924_201332 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200924_202418 by Chris, on Flickr IMG_20200924_202438 by Chris, on Flickr

I have used the exact same indicators. They look great (I think) and work out cheaper than buying 4 new bulbs!
