If you only posted it on here Id be surprised anyone could work out where the bike was located from the pics you posted. but its a good point about facebook... Years back I heard about a bloke post about his lovely house and his expensive new bike and then boast about his 3 weeks holiday in Greece. Came home and the bike was gone and the house turfed over. Hardly rocket science to piece together etc.

I'd have a look around locally and ask at the local police station to see if it's in their compound - they're so crap that I've had a bike taken off scroats by the old bill and it was sat in the police compound for months until a mate noticed it there and told me...it had been reported but they hadn't connected the bike in their compound with the bike I reported stolen.
My daughter also had her bike pinched, it was a 125cc bike she went to college on. I think kids pinched it, pushed it away and couldn't get it going, so they dumped it a few streets away.
So it might have been nicked by amateurs and dumped fairly soon on.

That makes a lot of sense.. link the phone to other accounts like ebay and facef**k and bobs your uncle every scrote knows where you are... if they alredy cant tell from a faceache profile. Simple false name and addy and not posting anything crims can use makes sense. Why would you tell everyone your business anyway? Weird...

Have weaned myself off eBay , but when I was looking at a lot of bikes there were so many with a numbered wheelie bin in the background. Also the odd one with a street name!

Gutted to hear this, mental that anyone would thieve a bike in this condition unless it was for parts of course. Keep checking ebay I guess. It was in the garden for 20years and no one batted an eyelid and now its gone, really strange unless you'd had it out on the driveway for all to see who went past or something? If so I'd be looking locally as I'd be surprised many people know what one of these is, let alone think its worth anything in parts etc Let us know the outcome, I hope you do get it back, but since its a long way from a runner then someone must have grabbed it for parts
It was stored at my dads house which is up for sale and has had a number of people viewing the property over the last few months. I'm going to check insurance tonight but I don't think it was covered unfortunately.

Gutted for you, I would speak to neighbours find out if anyone has cctv, also ask about dash cams some will still record at night passing vehicles. Any local shops garages on the road again same things. Guessing old bill are not attending? Had the bike been moved into a building? Check eBay but also gumtree, likely to be people semi close to you, unlikely to travel hundreds of miles, had you spoken about the location anywhere?
Thanks Veg, the police are going to do a door-to-door to ask neighbors and check for any cctv availability.

I most definitely have location disabled on every device I own. There are two likelihoods - a scrap dealer came to give us a price on taking it away earlier this year, and enquired after it again in September. We spoke to him on Saturday and he seemed genuinely surprised to hear about the theft. In addition, there have been numerous people viewing the house as it's up for sale. No one else via online communities would have been able to locate it.

It is most likely one of the potential house purchasers has mentioned it to someone else and they thought sounds easy pickings and went round for it.

I wonder if the police are likely to bother checking with all house viewers, hmm. I'll mention it to them in case they're underworked and looking for something to occupy them

The fact they responded is a miracle, was it just in the garden? I would still do my own H2H etc

I would still do my own H2H etc Yep, I'd considered locking it down earlier this year but I had nothing I could chain it to, so it was just under it's cover but out of sight unless you came through the side gate and walked down the garden.
If my neighbor hadn't been unwell and taken into care she would have noticed anyone coming into the garden so I guess bike karma was against us. Insurance doesn't cover contents as the house was pretty much empty so no luck there either.

I guess you will still be getting something else, perhaps in the spring? You or anyone with no solid object to chain to or have a landlord that don’t want you installing ground anchors, getting something like a large strong cardboard box to fill with concrete instead would do the job. I wouldn’t trust school kids acting as spotters possibly from an overlooking bedroom window. Perhaps it’s no coincidence it’s been covered up all this time only to disappear after being uncovered. Did you mention moving houses with it, Did you wheel it a short distance?

Hoist, no the bike was still covered and still in the same place it's been for the last 20+ years - the only time it's seen the daylight is when it was uncovered this summer to take the photos. It was at my dads house which is hopefully being sold soon so I was intending to move it to my house as soon as we got confirmation of house sale and I had a hire van. Bike couldn't be wheeled as the steering lock was on (no keys to unlock it).

Estate agents keep records of viewers of property. Ask your dad to get the list of viewers and call every single one of them. Even better, go round every one of their properties and see if there’s any evidence of bikes. If anyone asks just say you’re drumming up interest in your dads house for sale, make an offer etc. It’ll be obvious if there’s a scrote on the list.

Police called me back after doing their house-2-house. Neighbor saw the bike being loaded into a white van but didn't get the registration. Police have closed investigation now.

So get a time, the window then get a description of van and offenders then cross check anpr cameras for vehicles matching descriptions in the time frame then do intel and pnc checks do body checks on registered keepers and intel checks it isn’t rocket science. I would be asking local old bill have they done these things?
