I’m heading to Liskeard at Cornwall for a few days this week.
Any good pubs or a nice Fish & Chips place over there that anyone would suggest? Or a “must see” attraction?
Thanks
Kostas

Thanks Kostas Will you have access to a car? There are some places I’d like to see near there such as lands end and Torquay. We were down there a number of years ago in Truro to see a solar eclipse. Wish we’d have had more time to explore, but it was only a day or two. Jon

If your driving from Heathrow, I would also recommend ‘stone henge’ and ‘cheddar gouge’ on the way down or back.
Plenty of places to see, just google the area, as well as the journey there.

I originate from this area. I would suggest a trip to the seaside town called Looe.
You have a famous pub called the Jamaica Inn, close to a lake which has some thing to do with King Arthur and the "lady of the Lake" but half of England lays claim to this sort of thing. This time of the year you get strange fog patches at night close to the lake which make it a bit scary. When i was a teenager we would ride back from the pub and stand on our foot pegs to look over the strange fog patches. This area is supposed to he haunted by a headless carriage man.
Another nice seaside village is Tintagel with with a castle on the cliff overlooking the sea. There is a witch museum close by which is fun. Be carefull as i think i might have got my last girlfriend from there!!!
There is the Eden Project which is some big bio domes. I've been twice but always go too drunk before going into the domes, maybe 3rd time lucky.
Cheddar Gorge is a nice place. There is a big underground cave there called Wookey Hole.
If you want a bit of old historic engineering you have plenty of cornish mines. I think a famous one is called Levant mine with a beam engine.
Also scattered around Bodmin Moor there are lots of stones piled up made by the same drunken Druids that made Stone Henge, it could have been magic mushrooms.
I hope this helps.

Make sure you get a decent pasty (worth some research) while youre there as well plus there are some good ales in the area.
Its quite a drive from Heathrow, Id estimate 3-4 hours depending on the traffic.
Lovely part of the country, lived there for a good few years.

if you like walking? rough tor is the highest point in cornwall and good for watching either sunset or rise. dozmary pool is the one tobyjugs is referring to? and the witches museum is at Boscastle just up from tintagel. st micheals mount also worth a visit. apparently there are more bays than days in a year.

I only know the Cornish half my dad burned all the bridges to the Scottish half. From what i understand the Macfarlane's lost all their land and became rogues and mercenaries.

My blood runs back in that direction too, so before I suggest placed to go...I’ll pick up on Jon’s idea to go to Torquay ....don’t bother !!! And anyway that’s Devon !
Any of the old fishing towns are good to visit, north coast beaches such as Polzeath surprises most people.
If you are traveling through and you go past Bodmin...go take a quick peep at the monument....good photo op !
Then there is a ‘cultural heritage site’...Trago Mills ....😂😂😂. .

I used to go to Fistral Beach early January every year. Cheap hotels and the only nutter there surfing. Great waves usually and yes I wore a steamer...

Thank you all for your suggestions, even if the topic got derailed a bit, which is not uncommon on this forum So, went to Stonehenge on my way from Heathrow. Then the bloody sat/nav took me thru the A30 and then thru some narrow roads and a few villages to get me here, which was tricky as you people drive on the wrong side of the road... Made it to Liskeard with the Port (how British is that) side mirror still in place! I’m here for business so today after work I drove to Falmouth to meet with a friend, which was nice, and the drive down there was interesting. Beautiful countryside! I don’t think Cornish people like to be called British do they? Tomorrow afternoon I will head back to London (staying close to Hyde park) for one night. Cheers Kostas

Going back off topic last Xmas my sister showed me a you tube clip called Grand Theft Cornwall, i found it very amusing
