Hi New to web site! Just got a 350 lc my second one, the first one was in 81.the lc I’ve got now is a German import with kph clocks .does anyone know is it the drive at front wheel that makes it mph/kph or in the clocks because have seen converters on eBay that fit at top of cable?
Cheers pat

It's the clock that's different and now rare (read expensive)
The convertor on the cable just slows the cable speed

Does anyone know what part you need to swap to convert the speedo drive to MPH? Is there a part from any other bike that interchanges? I re-faced my gauges but they are still reading about 7mph faster than actual.... Also either the speedo or tack is making the whining noise.. any tips for resolving this??

If it is whining then the Speedo or tacho head (the bit the cable spins) is dry
Sometimes oiling helps, sometimes they just self destruct anyway
If you have refaced them to mph then you need to change the 2 gear shafts that drive the odometer
Only 7mph out lol
I'd take the needle off and move it 5mph

These 40 yo clocks are not that accurate I'm afraid. I've stripped and converted lots, and always check the speedo at 2 or 3 known drill speeds, before and after converting. Unfortunately they seem to differ sometimes by quite a bit, and I mean unopened original clocks differ against each other, so don't take mph readings too seriously. As Steve says, you need to replace 2 off gears within the housing, one off vertical, one horizontal to convert the odo to read in miles. I can do it for you if your stuck, just send me a PM. With regards to the whine, I'd remove both cables and lubricate them, and also apply a smear of Molybdenum Grease inside the speedo and tacho cable connectors.

A tale of woe, I found out my DT speedo was out when I got a speeding ticket a few weeks ago. I thought I was doing low 40s in an 40 average camera spot and it turns out I was doing 48. Checked the speedo with a GPS app and its 4 mph too slow - bugger!

My humble opinion: I’ve not converted mine from kph to mph. I don’t want to start messing with delicate 40 year old instruments unless I have to.
It’s not an MOT requirement and all you need to remember is 50kph is about 30mph and 60kph is about 40mph. Other than that it’s banzai time 😊 🚀

There is only 2 real internal gear shafts so easy to work that out, and you have to swap them both as a pair. One of them has a star shaped gear, if that gear has 10 points then it's km, if it has 16 then it's miles.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am looking to convert a German Speedo and this is the only reference I’ve found.
Does anyone know where I can buy the two shafts mentioned to convert the Speedo to mph
Also what’s the best way to change the face? Sticker etc
Thanks Steve

Sticker etc Thanks Steve Steve, This is a service I offer if you don't want to do yourself. Just PM me for details. I also have a set of parts (2 x gears, SH 120mph facia, and SH needle) that I can sell you if you want to do yourself. You can buy new solid facias from Simon Wells (Katherine Wells on eBay) if you want a new one, but you need to transfer the needle stop from your km facia to the mph one. I do not like using the thin overlays, you need to remove all the old markings from your old facia to prevent ghosting, and its almost impossible to get them to fit without some bubbles or crease. the rigids are a little bit more expensive but a better option in my opinion. Shaun.
