Can anyone tell me what model it is. What its worth now, what its worth restored, and any good sources for parts Cheers lads That's a Mark II. You can get the date it was manufactured from the Sturmey Archer hub - give it a good wipe round with a cloth and you will find it stamped on. The Mark II isn't worth a huge amount, even when restored. Probably worth around £80-100 as it is now. Most of the chrome looks ok but it needs tyres, front mudguard, seat etc .. soon starts adding up!

Just sold one of my Mk2s for £1000 and some of the more niche/rarer Mk2s do fetch much, much more than that...Chopper parts are nearly up there with LC parts, in fact, LC tyres are cheaper than Chopper ones as the fronts are not being manufactured anymore!
If you just want to get a return on your money and the chrome is decent, sell the rims, seat, handlebars etc seperatley and you should get a few hundred back from it.
The Chopper mob are a good laugh, you think LCs are popular when you go out and about but thats nothing compared to riding a Chopper, a decent ride out is certainly faster than a VJMC ride out and they do more more ride outs a year than many of the members on here thats for sure!

Chromes not good unfortunately.. Gonna try this citric acid bath idea, and just clean it up a bit, front tyres are unbelievable prices

I bought a MK3 to do a charity ride on... its not good for the knees... im 6'4" I've done 15 miles on it a few times... and yes I can still pop a wheelie on it..!!!
MK3 50-200 MK2 are a big variation.. as said.. a multi-speed one 5 or 10 speed are rare as hens teeth... a standard mk2 is 200-500 in rough condition... 1k upwards for a minter... you could get a few hundred for the seat..and another few hundred if the gear selector is in good nick. MK1's are through the roof and then on an extending ladder...
free tip.. try and sell it in November.. lots want to surprise someone for xmas and the prices rise...

MK1's are through the roof and then on an extending ladder... A friend of mine has a fizzy lemon MKI that is immaculate .. visitors to his house can look at it but no touching and definitely no sitting either. Choppers were horrible things. I still have scars on my knees from falling off one after a fast, downhill speed wobble that took the bars out of my hands forty-odd years ago.

I was "jumping" it over all sorts in the woods and off home-made ramps... and could wheelie it for fun...

Hi, That brings back memories, I had a yellow one too,( not brand new) im guessing it was the first or earlier ones. After that I got a "Raleigh Jeep" which I stripped and did a total restoration on with the help of my dad. He showed me how to put new crank/bottom bracket bearings in it amongst other things. I had my Raleigh Jeep for years before progressing to a racer. Did they not try to ban the Raleigh Chopper at one point, due to the amount of children hurting themselves on them ? Or have I got my wires crossed ? Steven.

One of my friends had one with the high back and extra seat pad above the seat. I was on the back of it going down a steep hill through a park and it started speed-wobbling and threw us both off. The grazes I had on my knees and elbows were huge and took weeks to heal up .. I never went on one again. Awful things.

The MK1/MK2 chopper as a design was as sensible as giving a 17year old on an L plate a 250LC..
A gear change that require one hand to be taken off the handlebars, and most probably a glance down at the same time...whilst the saddle was long enough to comfortably accommodate a passenger....what could possibly go wrong !
Design classic , form over function . Great stuff !

Its no surprise that our generation migrated to LCs after Choppers. Riding too fast for the design and surviving the death wobbles was simply the education in our formative years... we put it to good use through the country lanes and towns on the chip shop runs going as fast as we could later on Yamaha's finest!
