Thought I should start a proper build thread on here as I'm asking a million questions, you all may as well see what I'm asking about. This as it was when I dragged it home in early January 2019. Got it for a great price so off to a good start. A few more pics since then: Finally sold this, so have some cash now: Got sidetracked turning this: Into this: ... and now fully back into the LC. Plan is to build a stock(ish) looking hotrod sleeper. Cyls and head get shipped off to Florida for porting on Friday. Blue spots arrived a few days ago. Vforce yz85 reeds and BT45's arrived today, PWK28's should be here tomorrow. Looking towards a YSS shock and fork rebuild, Zeeltronic box, Mutts midrange pipes, JDM RZ350 white/blue stripe livery ... etc. Will update as things progress.

Alas ... I can see now I pretty well slacked off on my alleged "proper build thread". After almost two years, I've made it to this point. Engine is all new. New crank, 1st over "stage 2" ported cyls, o-ringed squished head, YZ85 Vforce3 reeds, PWK28's, Millennium pipes, etc. Still wanting an Ignitech or Zeel box and new coil. Chassis is mostly standard. Everything new or refurbished. Got blue spots on, but still wanting a new rear shock and fork springs. Paint will be white rattlecan until I can afford the proper JDM 4U0 RZ350 blue stripe livery. Here's first start today. Still waiting on air filters. Took me a minute to remember the chokes

Lovely jubly Jim. Get that oil pump primed and bled or all your good work will come undone quite quickly. Run premix for those short starts at least. Bike looks great and sounds wicked with those pipes. Well done 👍

Lovely jubly Jim. Get that oil pump primed and bled or all your good work will come undone quite quickly. Run premix for those short starts at least. Bike looks great and sounds wicked with those pipes. Well done 👍 Thank you, Sir. This first start up is off a hanging IV style fuel bottle (can also be seen in the background) with 50:1 premix from my KTM (and leaf blower). After holding the pump full open on tickover to fill the lines, I was left with a big air bubble at the tank line high-point, so I ended up back filling the line using a big 150ml "livestock syringe" from the local farm store. It worked perfectly and was cheap as. Next step is setting idle and balancing the carbs while I wait for the filters. Setting the idle looks to be a right pain with these janky plastic idle screws and awkward access to the right hand carb.

For setting up idle i use a drill bit as a feeler gauge and set them up before fitting.

For setting up idle i use a drill bit as a feeler gauge and set them up before fitting. What size bit get you close, Tony? EDIT: Figured it out(ish). Set approx idle speed using cable adjuster at the switchgear, then faff around with drill bits til you find one thats close, then pull the carbs and set them up to match. I wouldn't imagine this a popular tool on your side of the pond, but I've used one many times in the past on aircooleds and triples to set the idle, before balancing with lolly sticks.

Hi Jim I use a 3mm drill bit. Adjust he slide height using the idle screws then mark both screws with a line. That way you can easily adjust the idle on the carbs using the mark for reference.

Well, it got me around the neighborhood a few times, and I didn’t have to push it home. I’d consider that a success. Jetting is off. Lots of clutch slipping needed to get off the line. Will wind in the air screws a bit. Feel good and pulls hard when on the pipe. Trans is a little.... I dunno what’s going, on but I think it’s the linkage. Petc**k leaking where it mounts to the tank. Any tricks for this? Still needs front mudguard rattle canning. Pipes sound awesome but are loud AF.

petc**k - Did you use a new o ring and the correct fibre washers on the screws? Also did you make sure there was no paint where the o'ring seals?

ahh ok, that could well be what was needed. Old british car fuel pumps and carbs gaskets were like that. leaked until they swelled and magically fixed themselves lol

Pipes do sound great but i bet they are loud Tyga shorty cans on stamped stainless pipes. Strange, my TDR has the same cans on M77 mild steel pipes and its much quieter.

If your gearbox is a bit wooly first port of call is the linkage. I put a new one on an an old LC and it transformed it!

Got a pair of ss flange bolts to replace the allens I initially used at the fuel tap. Should seal better at the fiber washers.

Current state of things. Finally got jetting close enough for a proper ride. Currently at 50, 1.5 turns, N68A #3, 165. Still a bit hollow right off the line, so will wind in the airscrews half a turn, and if that don't fix it I'll go up to 52 pilots. Pulls hard on the needles and mains, but not done a proper plug chop, so don't know for sure where it is. Feels VERY strong tho, and expecting some good numbers once I have it run in enough to go on the dyno without fear it'll self-destruct. Bit of an OH SHIT moment, as the rotor nut and rotor came loose and made a horrendous racket after a particularly spirited run up the main street a block over. Thankfully it's an easy fix, and the rotor, crank taper and threads are without damage. Woodruff key is smeared, so will need a new one before I re-assemble. Spent some time re-lapping the taper, and will attempt to source a new 5mm x 6mm x 13mm key tomorrow.

Hi Jim I had a fly wheel that kept coming loose. I would recommend you mark it eith a paint pen so you can visually check to see if it is working loose. Sounds like your getting there now.

Yeah, many thanks for your help Tony. This thing really breathes. Thinking 52 pilots may be needed. I'll get some paint on that nut.

I always use some threadlock on my rotor nut since having one come loose. Not had one come off since :-)
On the petc**k/fuel tap, I use allen bolts with copper washers.
