Hi Great write up and great progress so far The old aircooleds are great bikes, full of character and simple to work on too. Looks like you've found a good one to start with. Enjoy riding and fettling Dusty

Sometimes things like being made redundant turn out to be good for you in the long run, if the end result is a better work/life balance, you are living the dream my friend.
I don't envy any bike owner who's got wire wheels, I had them once on a moped, nightmare to clean etc, cast wheels all the way I say. Lol

Best of luck and most importantly, enjoy.

Thanks guys an yeah I agree earthman luck to have this bit of time to figure out what to do next,
Totally agree Dusty an Brit it's in quite original condition just needs a tonage of cleaning an I need to do something tank wise as it's had a really bad repair working on sorting that out though.
Haha todays plan is endless cleaning on the wheels again LOL.
Dunlop got back to me today and K82's (TT100 replicas) come in the correct 3.00 and 3.50 fitments for the super narrow 160 front rim an normal ish rear rim so might grab a set of those.

Love an A/C. I have a fair few parts if you get stuck. And that part should be satin black. Good luck with the cleaning!

Progress Be careful with Shambits parts - they mostly don't fit, work or break ! Too many stories on here unfortunately Norbo does a lot of aircooled parts in his shop linked to this site. You've got a good week for weather by the forecasts - enjoy the spraying !! Dusty

Hi, Really enjoying seeing your progress. I see you had problems stripping paint... If you need to strip paint or powder coat use Starchem Synstryp .... rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F171147499207Use it in a well ventilated area , preferably outside and wear overalls , gloves and safety goggles - it’s strong stuff Don’t let the Synstryp go dry once you’ve applied it - leave until the paint or powder coat surface goes soft and jelly like - don’t try and remove the paint/powder coat too early when the paint/powdercoat surface is wet with the Synstryp either - if you put it on carefully with a small brush and follow this advice you can strip paint and powdercoat without damaging paint nearby - make sure you mask and protect areas that you don’t want to be stripped or damaged. ! Hope this helps. Cheers Paul

Well I'm really glad number 1 I'm observant an number 2 a lil lucky haha. That ive not run or gone out on it yet. Has anyone ever had to repair a oil feed like this? Guessing the easiest way will be to glue the plastic to the metal rather than metal to metal incase of blocking the feed but just wondering what to use. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THEY WERE JUST FRICTION FITJust drawing up a list the bikes that original though not much to get

I used to re use my head gaskets if they weren't too worn. They are copper, so you can anneal them. Dusty

No problem. There are differing ideas on annealing. Heat up to cherry red - I used to do mine on the gas hob - then either quench with cold water, or some say leave to cool naturally. I used to add a thin smear of gasket sealant to mine if I was re using an existing head gasket - never had any issues. Dusty

I'm only going by the pictures of course but how bad is the scoring on that disk?
Going by pictures 9 and 10, what's that sticking out below the caliper, looks like it's had the wrong brake pads in there? Maybe you should fit a new disk??
