HI, i stupidly agreed to get a friend some browny points with his boss, by looking at his sons field bike. i have been made aware that someone else had already had a go at getting it to run.
it will not start from the kickstart. i have had it going very briefly bumping, but even that wont work now. The bike had a new crappy chinese carb from ebay which i suspect the last guy put on.. The bike has a good spark, but i did expect to see the plug alot wetter due to sustained kicking. it does nothing on choke only, but occasionally tries to fire with choke and full throttle.
what i have done
new fuel got original carb and had in a friends ultrasonic cleaner. set float heights etc ( its actually been cleaned 3 times now) checked reeds/mount/boost bottle for leaks new air filter new plug ( 2 ) had exhaust off and rings look ok from what i can see compression tested at a tad over 110psi removed flywheel to check woodruff key replaced crankseal whilst flywheel was off with the plug not getting soaked with fuel , i reverted back to the chinese carb and found that was the same.
im out of ideas now., so any help is greatly appreciated..

Coil Just because it has a spark does not mean the coil is cycling correctly and producing the spark needed for combustion It def sounds electrical

Jazzy, do you mean ignition coil, or the stator coil ? thanks

I have now tried a new ignition coil, plug cap and more plugs. The spark is still erratic . So this leaves stator/pickup or cdi. Neither of which i can find to buy. Does anyone know if i can fit from other bikes. Both cdi and ststor have part no's 34X on them. I'm also going through the loom looking for scrappy wiring. Does anyone know how many and where the earth points are? Cheers

Igntion stator can be checked with a meter. Rex’s racing shop can rewind these as they break down with age. 110psi compression seems a little on the low side ? Have you checked fuel flow from the tank. The sealing ball in the cap can corrode over time restricting breathing. Static timing is something thing like 2* btdc. Loom earths to securing bolt for igntion coil. Running additional earth good thing. Handlebar run off on switch can corrode over time !
