Geez, seems like he's just sold out too. Will message him to see when he expects any more. Seems very odd that all of a sudden everyone wants to do this conversion...it's not like it's a new idea or anything.

May have to go this way and ditch the 'stat. It seems MBD have sold out of the spacers too according to Martin as they've had a run of orders for them this week. Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut Mine arrived yesterday from Martin.....glad I got in early..!😁

Given that I assume my thread gave you the heads up in the first place, probably not appropriate to be all smug about it.

Not smug at all, just pleased that your thread and this forum has brought this to many peoples attention... I’m sure Martin will be on the case to get more in stock soon...!

So guys.... race YPVS .... stat or no stat.... that is the question...! i have it on a Chinese ebay special Rad..... Gav I run no stat with a standard rad on my race YPVS and its still running a bit hot on a warm day. Is the £65 Chinese ebay special rad any good?? It looks like its only single row. Cant find a 2 row rad for much under £300 John

Ran at a cold Cadwell yesterday, and had to tape the rad up with gaffa tape to keep it at stat temp... Ran in middle of summer, on day when it was 34 degrees in brillinant sunshine , never exceeded 70 degrees... so I would say mine works fine... and with it being a track bike , only has water in, no antifreeze or special coolant... Well finally got around to pulling my 50C stat out of the bike and sure enough it was slightly longer than the original one.

I have two radiators one is a bit rough looking with with a course matrix. looks like it would suit a tractor. The other is very well made looks fantastic with a fine matriix. Both radiators used on the same bike showed that the radiator with the couse matrix worked better than the fine matrix radiator. When i fitted scoops to the radiators it had a good effect on the fine well made radiator and increased the cooling a lot.

Hi have question about the 55 degree thermo so thought it better to put the question on this post.....
So what's the opinion around the 55 degree stat with spacer with the oversize radiator?... YPVS running halfway and goes through like a two stage warm up ie half way back to 1/4 upto 1/2 back (if not again on odd temp days) and then settles back to just below 1/2 way.
Assume 55 deg would sort out the yoyo but trying to work out how it would run cooler when warmed up? is it due to the spacer and thermo letting more flow through that the standard thermo?
Due to current rebuild thinking it will run hotter for a while and so thinking about the stat change... if I am not going to get much benefit rather not bother as extra cash
Had issue last year in traffic and it got hot sort of 3/4+ but I know they do that and not sure if above stat will sort it?

Hi
The stat won't actually make the bike run cooler, the larger rad should help that
Most are happy if the running water temp is 55-65 degrees as the engine is more efficient at that temp
The 50 degree stat won't stop the yoyo as when it initially opens at 50 degrees the rad is full of cold water which then flows into the engine making the temp drop and the stat close till the temp rises again
With the smaller standard rad the volume of water is less so has less effect so less yoyo
If you left the 70 degree stat in your ideal running temp is lower than the stat so it will keep closing and keep the bike at a 70 degree minimum
The 50 degree stat lowers the minimum but if the rad isn't big enough or the flow is wrong it will still run hot

Thanks Steve.. see now how it can potentially reduce running temps in certain cooler air temp conditions by the stat letting the motor go to a lower temp (especially with larger rad I have) but when hot day see how it perhaps does zero as motor running at 70 deg anyway.
Decision if I spend £57 changing now or ride as is.... recent build costing some substantial pennies... over £1,600 now

This is the best type in my opinion. It just takes more imagination to plum it in. You shouldn’t get any Yo Yo effect with this. This one is from a Super Cart engine. I didn’t fit it at first because I thought it was too small. That opinion has changed now after seeing how big the hole is on the pressure side of the pump. I have also got a bigger version of the above which comes from a snow mobile,
