Easy now... lets get back to the topic in hand ...er... you know what i mean.
Sad news is that last week I missed out on getting a My00 GC8. It was cheap enough and dark blue like my old one, but had almost 300k kms lol. My wife is thankful i missed it i think... Im a bit gutted as it was registered and drove well, tho needed some work. Same guy has a couple of GF8s as well... Ive never had one of those... hmm...

Interesting Jon. Both cars are incredible but I'd still want the Yaris to be honest. One thing I don't get though, the little Toyota is designed to be fast and light, so why on earth would they plonk in an 'infotainment' unit? I'd want my car to be as basic as possible. No airbags no electric gizmos...they all add weight and will go wrong eventually.

Alex I agree, if you were buying one for everyday use you'd pick the GRY every time in the modern world as its a modern car, plus its less likely to be stolen. I cant leave my Evo anywhere when i go out in it as its so steal'able. To insure it it must be garaged and no amount of alarms would sway the insurance company. The same discussion about the infotainment rages on the GRY forums. There is a Circuit Pack and its considered that Toyota should have deleted the electric stuff on those cars. The thing is tho... its still a road car, so has to be safe so has to have airbags etc and, while people say they want a stripped out car most people would struggle with one to be honest, race cars are not road cars etc. However while the GRY Toyota sells in all markets is a road version, like with the Evos and Subarus back in the day you can buy a stripped out version in Japan that is designed for racing. It comes without a lot of the posh bits and the electrics as fas as i know.

I do struggle a bit for subaru GC8/GF8 content as most of it is done by millenials and contains zero insight, only angled photography and 'tunes'. meh.
Anyway, came across this recently released video that is local to me, so not perfect for any UK info but was pretty on the money about ownership and driving etc. I hope it helps redress the balance on here which has become pretty evo heavy lol

Well I've just seen the Makinen has sold for a tad over £100K, (plus fees) a lot of money just because it was a press car.

Car Throttle article on the Auction, tho doesnt seem to understand that buyers premium is added to the sale making the TME more exy than any other Evo sold, ever. Buyers premium is absolutely part of the sale price, the total price is what was paid for the car! Its like saying tax isnt part of a sale price. sigh. Ahh well... lazy journalism perhaps? I mean, it doesnt take much effort to add the percentage of buyers premium to the hammer price, maybe maths isnt a strong suit. :/ www.carthrottle.com/post/mitsubishi-uks-evo-vi-tme-sells-for-100k-ix-fq-360-mr-gets-nearly-70k/

A Starion for £21K? Sheesh. Didn't Hammond buy one for £1500? Also is it true that it was meant to be called Stallion but the Japanese accent got confusing?

Considering the prices of the Evos I reckon the Starion's price was top dollar and then some. What year did Top Gear buy that one? different times... EDITED: found this: www.autoevolution.com/news/clarksons-ex-mitsubishi-starion-sold-for-just-4050-9679.htmlRe the name: this from Wikipedia: Mitsubishi says "Starion" is a contraction of "Star of Arion" — and refers to both a star and the mythical horse, Arion. The cover of the original Japanese Starion sales brochure, published by Mitsubishi (May 1982) carried the text: "the name STARION — derived from the combination of star and Arion, Hercules' horse in Greek mythology, symbolizes a sense of the universe, and of power and high performance.[3]
Several sources attribute the name to struggles by Japanese engineers to pronounce the word stallion.[2][4] An early Japanese television commercial for the Starion closed with a logo of a stallion's head with the word "Starion" below it. One translation of the voiceover says the name refers to a star and the mythical horse, Arion.[5] The Mitsubishi Colt and Mitsubishi Eclipse featured equine names, with the Eclipse named after the champion racehorse.A mate of mine who i shared a house with had a starion in the early 90s. I loved it. It felt like another world. My car was a TR7 convertible at the time, his car was faster and much more solid, plus it had all sorts of cool Japanese things in it and felt like Sci Fi to be in lol. He was a JDM freak before it was even popular, he had a Sylvia before that and an RX7 Turbo II after. All great cars Id love to have in my garage now. FWIW, we got the Starion here but like the Supra of the era we got the wrong models, Honda continued the theme in the 2000s with the Civic as well - ie they sold the JDM base cars and the UK Type R, yet everyone knows that you want that era of Civic to be the other way round. I dont know what the importers of Japanese cars were thinking. They could have easily competed on performance with the Aussie V8s in the 90s with these and yet mostly chose not to go there. weird. I guess they were always worried about cars not selling and being stuck with them. I know we are a small market (smaller in the 90s as well) but this makes you think that the importers must have always been on the bread line with make or break being the order of the day with new models. Tho (bringing us back to the topic in hand) even today that seems to hold true when Toyota discounted the first 1000 'base' GRY cars to '$40k drive away' (£20k) instead of the RRP of $53k (£27k), just so they would be sure to sell them on launch. They expected that it would take a year to exhaust that 1000 car supply, it took only a week. Talk about not reading the room....

That Starion story is still funny though!
And talking of Supras, have you seen the prices of those now? A mate has one, 3.0 V6 I think. Goes like stink and still looks modern and exotic. OK it's not a 4x4 but it's a hell of a car.

The prices of everything, especially 90s JDM, have gone thru the roof the past year. Supras are silly money here now too.

I was bored last night and was looking at cars on ebay
Yes Supra's are strong money but I was surprised how cheap Subarus were
£5-10k I thought was reasonable for a performance car. Even JDM ones around that money

Even JDM ones around that money Steve Steve Yes cheap performance and a proper classic as well. I'd love to find a JDM 1999 or 2000 2 door STI, low miles and mint... for cheap. Sadly i fear thats not going to happen, but if i could find one in the uk and a place to store it id be all over that as I'll need a car when im in the uk next, perhaps i should car share with Tim haha

It’s finding a good one that hasn’t gone the way of lc’s. Although they are being imported from Japan. Lots of stuff is now coming over including Alfa gta’s, jag xjr’s anything remotely ‘performance’ I actually decided to get another vw an R or R club sport. Lead times are ridiculous though. When I first looked they were available now it’s august at the earliest. May have to rethink as I’m doing more face to face work and one car isn’t working. Also got the pleasure of my lad turning 17 in September got to get him something. Fiat 500 is first choice.

Interesting on the imports, the uk was cheaper than here for a while, tho with the USA 25year rules advancing annually the older stuff is only going on way in price. I love the Japanese imports, most of them are so much more low miles than the used and abused aussie stuff, less sun as well, tho more often than not smoked in. swings and roundabouts... Ahh the lure of the Mk8 Golf R... Harry reviewed it the other day: no idea on what cars young lads drive these days, certainly not AWD turbo cars, I cant imagine they could get insurance

Good video and pretty much what I expected it’s not a gr however for me to do journeys of several hundred miles at a time probably better for it. It’ll do the motorway trips I need and then the fun bits as well, and will be good on the cross country bits.

"no idea on what cars young lads drive these days"
Round our way it seems to be the little turbo Fiestas chipped to the max as you would expect
Got a mate with a young son
1st car - Audi TT
2nd car - Toyota Soarer
And I'm not talking spoiled kids. They are older used cars
In our day it was a mini or an old escort. Some lovely old stuff around now
Probably a lot to do with the influence of his father who runs around in an old v8 Range Rover and a Mercedes CL500
Back on topic there is a JDM Subaru on EBay just now with only 4000km's in it 😳

Fake one Alex, it’ll be his first car. He’s not a bike or car fan, he wants something for him and his fan girls. I want something safe, reliable and slow for him.

It’ll do the motorway trips I need and then the fun bits as well, and will be good on the cross country bits. I agree, if i was doing lots of miles or long distance trips i would get something other than the GR and the Golf R is an appealing proposition for most. I know i am not alone in my hate of the way VW treat people these days and some will never forgive them for the emissions scandal, but i can see the appeal. So whilst not for me, I can see why you would gravitate to it. Defo lease it. Never ever personally own a modern VW is my sage (well i say it is haha!) advice.
