Hi guys another thread another question , So goin through a box of bits I got with the bike I have 2 CDI boxes , What is evident to me after stripping the loom ( what’s original of it ) is some time in the past the MK2 engine had been replaced with a Mk1 , the loom has been ripped apart & so many wires added and ( twist soldered ) on ( pics to follow ) so it’s a pure hack job . My question I know the larger CDI in pics is from a MK2 ( I think 10W -10. Type T1A01-41. HiITACHI made is this correct Any ideas what this smaller box is from Absolutely no markings on at all , is it a MK1 Or not a LC at all Kind regards in advance mic

On the smaller box I’ve just scraped a crusted on bit of muck revealing the Yamaha fork symbol, so it’s def a Yamaha CDI but def no other markings the symbol is on the bottom , nothing on either side ‘s Mic

Thanks mellow Nothing in the smaller box to determine wich it is But as the bike is a 1986 I’m gonna go with mk2
On a de restricted 10w is it just the carb , CDI & exhaust manifold that is the diff from the restricted

i can do you pictures of the plugs tomorrow evening As for restrictions on mk1 i think the 10w carb is ok anyway the 12a carb is different somehow. The 12A probably has a washer in the header pipe of exhaust.

Here is a detailed wiring diagram. It's for the Mark 3, which is same as Mark 2 except ur cdi may not have the black wire with white stripe that goes to the ypvs control box👍 flic.kr/p/23uwYwcClick on that and you can download the picture. It shows there is 2 male bullets from cdi and a female if you have the black/white wire. Also a 6 pin connector. Will take pictures after work tomorrow🙂

Here is the mk2/3 cdi 2 male bullets 1 female bullet. 1 six way connector but only 5 wires. Sure they are the 2.8mm male ones. Could only find my cut mk1 cdi. There are a few new ones on ebay you could have a look at the pictures. Id guess they will use same types of connectors. Hope this helps

My CDI boxes now Firstly the 10w And secondly the Mk2 , I’m goin to say this is a mk2 as it has 7 wires / not 8 like the one mellow has shown , nothing is missing or cut , 5 on block connector and yellow and red bullet , but no black , I’m goin to stick my neck out and say this must have something to do with either the stator winding or the ypvs servo control unit , ( but looking back as they should , will have no trouble selling the 10w when the time is right 👍 [/url
