Any hints or tips please?
Previous owner left off the caps and the plug is rusted in.
I've soaked it with WD40 Penrtrating over some weeks and it won't budge.
Took it to my local bike garage and they drew a blank too. If I could rig up some sort of press, I'm sure it'll give, but I don't have a vice let alone any sophisticated tools.
Help!

Ive had to cut the fork top off one once, luckily it was bent and rusted :/

Large socket so it fits over the air valve and give it a few taps with a hammer to shock it loose worked for me

I drilled and tapped a 4l0 fork plug m8 then got it out with a bolt

Like Steven, I've made tools too for this job as its a PITA without. Some forks as people mention have a socket for holding the damper rod. However the LC and YPVS forks i have dismantled only have a round hole. My Tool fits an LC or YPVS. It not only holds the damper rods from spinning with the spike, but doubles to compress the top bush above the spring. Makes it a 5 minute job.  Fork Tool 1 Fork Tool 2 Fork Tool 3 Fork Tool 4Jon |

amazing tools...
my last fork job had 30 year old seals... I had to burn them out with a torch...

Cheers The air valve is on YPVS caps. LC’s don’t have them. If you look at the pictures of my tool (oh er) you’ll see the cap with shriedervalve. If I ever have to do an LC I’ll machine a different plunger with a ball end as opposed to the bore. Jon |
