I wouldn’t start doing any shopping until younhave stripoed the bike down, made a pile of the stuff that can be reused and made a list of what you are going to need. Then price it up...you can then decide which direction you want to go in terms of the build.

Thanks reedpete haven’t got a clue on what things cost, just getting a few ideas I think the list will be quite extensive Thanks Yes, it’s going to be an expensive list... TBH I think it’s was an OK purchase value wise - £1140 or something? It’s worth that in parts, but it’s not the ideal frame to go spend a pile of money on unless you hybrid it as the frame is of less importance then. But if you want to go back to standard then as others said earlier maybe get your budget sorted, brake that bike (probably for modest profit) and just go buy something a bit more sorted. it will save time too. i know it’s not about money but it’s easy to spend your way down a path you didn’t intend and then get to far to retreat...we’ve all done that! Might not be quite what you want to here, and it is only my opinion, but I share my thoughts with best intent.

Ive bought and rebuilt far worse, some just 50% of bikes in boxes as basically scrap. However to do that you need to be involved not only in buying parts but in the work and it will take some time. That said what you will have at the end is a bike thats totally rebuilt to a known standard, unlike buying one from someone else etc.

It's worth checking the lower frame tubes for corrosion before you get in to deep as it's a major problem with these bikes due to no drain holes being fitted from new. Have fun

Tanks are a problem with these bikes - as in, new ones aren't made for them like they now are for the Lc's, and trying to find one that doesn't need work is very difficult. Repairs are possible of course, but can cost a fair bit. I used to be more concerned about the state of an engine in a prospective purchase bike, but nowadays it's the state of the petrol tank as it's harder to fix, imo. A complete engine rebuild, using gen Yamaha parts where possible will be around a grand. A complete respray on standard Lc2 bodywork will be in the same ball park I think. But, if you had to go and buy a pv engine of unknown condition off ebay, you are looking at a grand nowadays so your purchase price doesn't seem bad. You've gotta love these bikes to do it right, coz they are all bottomless money pits !! Dusty

I’d say you’re looking at a 4K build cost as a good ball park figure.

I saw that and considered it for a parts donor
Not too bad at the price you paid, as Dusty said an engine is 600 - 1200 now
I would say rebuild it as nice non standard. To go mint would cost more than the bikes value
Agree on the frame numbers too, would affect the value to some so again best non standard or hybrid
I have the opposite dilemma. Matching numbers euro frame/cases and will be a hybrid 🙄
I keep seeing donor bikes for sale but I'm up in Glasgow so collection/delivery is a killer
