Having found the excellent "RD550 LC" thread a couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd start a build thread on my RD525 triple build. I'm doing it when time allows, being self employed means work comes first and my toys second. I haven't taken many photo's so far as until I saw the LC thread I didn't think anyone would be interested, hopefully somebody is.... First photo's are of the initial machining work and trial assembly. IMG_4485 by paul bland, on Flickr IMG_4486 by paul bland, on Flickr IMG_4487 by paul bland, on Flickr

The engine will be going in this, YDS7 frame, YPVS forks, RD wheels with twin front discs ( please excuse the mess behind, and the high tech stand) IMG_4488 by paul bland, on Flickr

Why wouldn't anyone on here be interested in this?? I wish that my milling machine were that size, looks like you have a great workshop, good luck with the build.

The first trial fit of the engine in the frame, looks quite at home in there. However it did highlight one particular problem, the front down tubes are way to close to the outside exhaust ports. It's a good job I've got a tube bender and some leftover seamless tube from another job, new front down tubes it is then. IMG_4482 by paul bland, on Flickr IMG_4484 by paul bland, on Flickr

This looks a great project - I love it Mark had to redo his frame down tubes on his Lc triple to get the exhausts to fit. I think Nick Chambers has an aircooled triple - saw a pic on his Facebook page and assume it's his. Did you make the ally seat ? Looks great with the ally tank Dusty

I wanted a TZ top yoke (I'll be fitting clip on's), that is until I saw what people are asking for them, so I got an RD250 top yoke and turned it into a TZ-esque top yoke for the princely some of £0.00, which is more my sort of price (cheap skate). IMG_4489 by paul bland, on Flickr

Great skills there Paul I had a quick look on Facebook this morning for a pic of Nicks triple - but I got it wrong - it's a 4 !! 29512479_167972810526085_5329479297299347908_n by David Miller, on Flickr Harry Hawkins built a triple aircooled - featured in Motorcycle Mechanics magazine, Dec 2002, issue 182 if it's any interest to you Are you running with mag wheels, or spokeys ? Thanks Dusty, i did think about a four cylinder version but went with the triple for reasons various, plus now I've got something to build next! I've got mag wheels on it at the moment, but I do have some front and rear disc brake spoked hubs, we'll see.....

This is the seat I made from alloy sheet, I wanted it to look similar to an early TZ seat say an D or E model but not a straight copy, I got the look I wanted so v happy with it , it's just a pity I've got to stick a number plate on there somewhere. Brilliant build Paul - I hoped putting the LC triple on this Forum would maybe inspire a few people . Harry Hawkins has an RD600 air cooled. His frame tubes are very elegant in the way they curve to miss the exhausts. Your milling/machining look spot on, but are you fitting an outrigger section for the longer gearbox output shaft?
PM me if you need any info, and I'll help if I can.
Keep up the good work, following with interest.
Regards, Mark

Regards, Mark Thanks Mark, yes it's all very interesting, just a pity work takes so much of my time, need more time to play! Yes I'll be using an outrigger bearing for the output shaft, but that's quite a way off yet, cheers.

This is the tank I've made for the triple, it hasn't photographed very well (I think it looks a bit crap really) but stood next to it looks ok, again I wanted it to be TZ -ish but with a bit more shape, I think I've got it. A busy few weeks ahead so might not be any updates for a while, but I'll do my best. IMG_4479 by paul bland, on Flickr

Superb fabrication Paul, looking forward to seeing your progress for hints & tips. I’m in the process of building an in-line 4, 500cc, if I ever get my cases back that is 😳!.
Good luck with it all mate 👍🏻.

Looks great...! I'm sketching out my own 4 cylinder hybrid but will only reveal when it looks like it'll actually work..!! Might just be an expensive doorstop..!! Good luck with the rest of the build...
