Hi All
I have almost finished a retro build for my father. Im not a bike builder, I build show cars normally. Its quite a funny story how this came to be and i will try to give you the short version.
I am a Mazda rotary nut and have several crazy Mazda's. I have recently started building a Mazda RX3 and needed an engine and transmission. My father had an RX7 I built for him some time ago and i said i would buy the car back, as he was not driving it anymore (my mother wont let him). After some debate i convinced him to give it to me if i fix his old motor cycle ($6000-$8000 AUD). My mother said the car was to fast an his bike was only a 350cc so it will be a little better suited (so it was her idea). I was told not to go crazy (haha i don't listen well and she knows this) . My dad is in his late 60's now but is still 21 in his eyes .
He bought the bike before i was born and to be honest i always thought it was just rubbish. I had made a deal with the devil! so i started researching this bike he called Elsie. I found out this is a cult bike that Yamaha fanatics love. With a little further googling i found that this was the start of the banshee engine. This was the point i knew that the crazy in me wanted a wild billet banshee engine with every thing. The engine alone blew the budget. What's money when you love your dad right!
After buying an engine that in my opinion would over power the bike in its original design, i needed to improve at least the brakes. Back to Google to find out how to improve the bike. I found some people more then willing to help, with out the following this would have been 10 times harder.
During the build my wife was under the impression that i was on track with the budget...... no comment. Anyway I was talking with my older brother about the build in the shed, he made mention that it looks expensive. I had not realized that my wife had walked in, I said to my brother "I have blown the budget out by $10,000 and laughed" This was followed by "WHAT THE F@#K" and a huge slap. She didn't speak to me for days and when she did it was to lecture me.
I just hope when Im retired my son will do the same for me.

- Murray West Racing in Western Australia. He helped me with the front end, wheels, brakes, expansion pipes and heaps tech info.
- Wicked ATV California. Roger for the crazy engine and all the billet parts. Once i told him what i was doing he was all in.
- NK racing for the swing arm kit.
- Stoutie from Yamaha for the the mechanical help
