Hi everyone hope someone as had this issue before and can advise me how to sort it.
the temp needle on my lc runs constantly around the 1/3 area on the gauge,i can ride around all day and it stays roughly same position.
But if i open it up,the needle shoots towards the red line and disappears, slow down it settles in 1/3 area again.
the bike does not loose water, level is good .
i have changed the head gasket.
checked the sender to the haynes manual.
I have done a a lot of miles like this so i know the engines not overheating. when i got the bike a wire had been cut leading to the gauge (gauge didn't work),so i joined the cable to the constant live on the front brake switch. This made the gauge work.
Until i go over 60mph.
Any ideas please

The gauge should go to maximum if you touch the sender wire to earth.....see if that works?

Done that, yes it goes to max.
What does that mean, the temp gauge in the tacko is ok.

One of 3 things is happening here
Gauge works but is faulty. Reads ok up to say 70 degrees then pops to max hence pooling about ok, get it up to decent temp and it fails
Sender faulty as in same fault as described above
Engine/fueling/ignition has a problem causing overheating
Id get a cheap ypvs or fzr temp gauge, tape it to frame where you can see it with power straight from the battery and wire to the sender
You will soon know if it's the gauge
IR heatgun ideal for checking what the engine and rad temp actually are
