Cheers lads for the welcome back ,
I had some damaged clocks that needed to be transferred into decent housings. The clocks also needed a thorough clean - dials, glass and mechanisms. So clocks apart (Dusty showed me how to do dismantle clocks a while back)
SDC11634
SDC11635
SDC11636
Then ready for assembly, new covers and screws, and a nice clock bracket
SDC11656
SDC11657
Clocks finished
SDC11658
The radiator cover is back with me after being plastic welded and meshed by my mate Lee. I'm slowly getting a bit of momentum going again!
Cheers, Mark

Thanks Raven ,
I've been working on a few background sections of the build, including running the 700 on an RG500 oil pump. I'm as sure as I can be that I can fabricate a 2 stroke pump to work on a 4 cylinder (or 3 cylinder) LC or YPVS, so happy days. However this has taken up a lot of man hours working out clearances and ratios so "positive build time" has been at a premium .
My radiator cover has come back from plastic welding by my mate Lee. It all lines up perfectly with my mocked up "extended" LC radiator.
This is the rear of the cover, showing the join, staples and gauze to strengthen

Really happy with the result of a standard looking rad cover.
Back in April (oddly on the morning Suzie died) I bought a small lathe (Clarke CL300), so I've been practicing/churning out a few parts on the lathe. Great fun working out what I can do. My mate Dean said he would give me a master class soon (Dean is head of engineering for a huge airline in the UK and was instrumental in lots of sections of the 550LC Triple build).
Cheers, Mark

Hi Mark, Awesome work as usual mate The clocks and rad cover look fantastic Not sure you'll need a master class on the lathe - think you've got the hang of it already !! Speak soon Dusty

Tie Bar brackets next. These brackets are a little different from the triple and are the last thing on the list to fabricate before it's all welded. I needed to make 2 bridging brackets for the tie bars to connect to. I have 4 tie bar holes in the crankcases.
Image of the right bridge bracket, tie bar reversed for maximum width
SDC11668
Left hand side, this bracket needed a lot of shaping as it is seen on the left side just behind the generator cover
SDC11669
Both tie bars in place
SDC11670
So the front engine mounts have double the support, the rear around a 60% increase, and the tie bars have maximum width to stop the torsional effect.
I just need it all welded together
Cheers, Mark

Cheers Alex and Davey .
I've not had much time to work on the bike. Mostly I've worked on the RG500 oil pump, fabricating parts, but I did manage to make a couple of parts on the lathe.
On the left, is the spacer that sits under the top yoke (R6 yokes/forks that I'm fitting). On the right is the front wheel spacer so the 1000 EXUP wheel can be fitted to the R6 forks.

Hi Mark Awesome lathe skills already mate . Those spacers look "factory" ! Don't bother with the master class from Dean - I don't think you need it !! Speak soon Dusty

Cheers Dusty ,
I'm away on holiday in Tenerife later this week, then out to the Channel Isles (to complete work left unfinished when I had the call from Sue April '18). I'm away for 5 weeks. So my posting will be a bit patchy .
Anyway, I thought I'd post up the bit you lot are really interested in, the engine. Cylinders and heads back from Harry and Graham

I'm hoping to get the welding done on the frame and yokes this week, as it's going to hold up progress very soon. The work on the oil pump is nearly finished.
Cheers, Mark

Have a great holiday mate Dusty Hi mate, Glenn has no time unfortunately, but I only have a few days before getting very drunk in the sun! Tony (my usual welder), said he might be able to sort it in a couple of evenings this week. But he's prone to forgetting conversations.

Cheers Alex, As Iโm still out of the UK I cant post any pics, but the good news is my oil pump drives have been converted. Dean phoned me earlier this week and said the 2 RG500 pump drives are finished ready for collection๐. So Iโm 95% finished on the oil system for the 4 cylinder. This will be easy to fit on the triple as well. Iโm not back in the UK properly for another 2 weeks, but Iโm now chomping at the bit to work on the 700 ๐. Cheers Mark

Back in the UK properly now after a long break .
It's been a while, so to remind you all, I'm fitting an RG500 oil pump to the 700. The Suzuki pump spins in the opposite direction and has more output than the LC pump.
Dusty supplied a knackered clutch cover for me to hack up an experiment on (thanks once again mate). So I did some calculations and work out I need a 25 tooth gear on the pump, and a 20 tooth gear on the drive. This means the pump will be spinning in the right direction, and the output will be very close to the LC's standard oil pump.
So using Dusty's cover (with a hole in it from primary gear damage), I position the drive gear - 20T
SDC11674
I next have to make an ali plate that will be welded to a clutch cover, to house the mini gearbox for the pump. As this plate has to be welded on top of the raised section on the LC cover, I mill the back of the plate for a close fit.
SDC11676
I then cut out a section for the gears and modify the clutch cover, so the RG pump oil lines can exit. The 25T gear is now in position, and has to be fabricated onto the RG pump, which is a flat blade drive
SDC11680
All will make sense when it's finished (I hope)
Cheers, Mark

If you could double everything on the oil pump it would save me hassle m8. Are you going to Stafford this year as I'm taking my refinished 700 this year
