So, with my white Lc hybrid now living in Kent, I was looking for a new project. Jez advertised an unfinished Lc in the for sale section and today I went up to the Midlands to pic it up. Jez is a really nice fella, and as well as the bike I got a ton of spares ! 20180530_185508 by David Miller, on Flickr 20180530_185514 by David Miller, on Flickr 20180530_185518 by David Miller, on Flickr I cant get in the shed now there is so much stuff !! The frame has been powdercoated, as have the wheels. The front end has been identified as mid 90's Fzr600. A lot of work has been done to get the wheel to work with the forks, and it looks great. The engine is complete but stripped down. New crank and a 375 conversion with fresh bores and pistons; 20180530_185203 by David Miller, on Flickr Haven't had a chance to look through the engine boxes yet; 20180530_185224 by David Miller, on Flickr Plan is to rebuild the engine first. Never had a 375 before so will be slightly different to my last Lc engine build. Gotta make room in the shed first though !! Dusty

Went through some boxes today and I'm pretty sure all the engine parts are there, so I hope to start on that next. I will do the shift bush mod again and a few other upgrades as with my last one. Crank has been rebuilt which is a bonus, and the 375 is a fresh conversion. Not sure about a head gasket for that - I think the head has been skimmed and Jez was after a copper gasket for it, so I will need to research that a bit, but it wont stop me building the bottom end. I also enquired with DVLA about applying for the lost log book. Sounds straight forward. I know the reg and have a clear HPI check on the frame so hopefully be a simple job. Been building another racking system in the shed today so I can store all the spares properly. Then I can go through them properly, and hopefully have room for both the Lc and aircooled frame project to be worked on. Dusty

When I applied for one with my TZR they agreed to issue one but only when the bike was fully built. Odd but at least I know they will do it.

Hi Dusty, Looking forward to this build (as ever) mate!. Canβt you delay until the long winter months, to give us something to occupy those dark nights!! π.
Oh and P.S. If you decide to off-load that spare chrome swinger, I have a perfect home for it π€ππ» Lol

Yeah i think that chrome swing arm would look nice in an eighties style bike. It was one of the thinks that caught my eye first in the pictures

It was one of the thinks that caught my eye first in the pictures Exactly my thoughts Tony ππ», I have a TZ style build on the go (slowly!), I have some chromed bits, footrest brackets, clock bracket etc, and I think itβd look great with that swinger + spoked wheels. (Other opinions are available of course! π€£).

The chrome isn't the best on the spare swingarm - there are spots of rust in quite a few places. I'm not a lover of chrome swingarms personally, but each to their own. I bought this Lc on a bit of a whim, having just sold my hybrid and not knowing for sure which way to go with the aircooled frame/Tz tank bike. That was my next project until I saw this Lc, and thought it good value and worth the outlay. I will probably hybridize it as that's what I like best and I have some Vj22 front forks and wheel plus the Vj21 front end which I'm refurbing, and I do want another Metmachex swingarm. I probably wont touch the chassis until I get the V5 for it ! Dusty

Good deal there Dusty. Yes Jez is sound, I bought a frame off him years ago at a very fair price which is now my Marsbar YPVS hybrid. Enjoy the build mate.

Cheers fellas Got lots going on at the mo but I did clear the bench today in preparation for the engine build. As mentioned, the cases have already been vapour blasted but I am considering getting Cox's at Reading to go over them again to give them a bit more of a sheen; 20180608_145840 by David Miller, on Flickr I have had a better look at the head and barrels too. This is a fresh 375 conversion, using DT175 pistons. Reed inlets look big - realised they have been modded for YPVS reed blocks; 20180608_145853 by David Miller, on Flickr I believe they shorten the barrels, and for some reason a previous owner has ground off the "347cc" casting on both sides. Barrels are 4l0. Head has had some work too; 20180608_145924 by David Miller, on Flickr It's been seriously skimmed. The alloy rib that rounds around the outside of the head is half the width of a standard head ! Head is also running a thermostat. Barrels and head will get vapour blasted at the same time as the cases. I'm considering getting the barrels and head looked over by someone who knows coz I have never had a 375 before and don't know if this is a good version of it or not. All ports are nice and smooth and bores look new, as do the pistons and rings. The engine came with a bling clutch case and lock up ; 20180608_145949 by David Miller, on Flickr Don't think I will use that though, and will probably fit a restored standard clutch case - I got some spare with the bike. It also has some newer carbs; 20180608_150109 by David Miller, on Flickr Airbox will be used so the K&n's wont be staying ! All the engine internals seem present - in fact there is enough to build 2 bottom ends; 20180608_150031 by David Miller, on Flickr Which is handy as I need an engine for the Tz bike and Rd400 engines seem non existant ! Head bolts are alloy items, not the normal steel; 20180608_150403 by David Miller, on Flickr I'm going to draw up a list of parts needed. I'm doing the gearshaft bush mod, and probably a new gearshaft too. New gear bearings and seals, neutral switch etc etc - same as my other Lc engine build. Crank is supposedly already rebuilt - will get it checked first of course. I've sent off the paperwork for the V5C, so hopefully no issues there, and I'm going to strip the rolling chassis down and start building back up once I have the documents. Still not sure whether to go hybrid or keep as is. I will have the option of a VJ22 and a VJ21 front end, and of course the Fzr600 that is already fitted, although that will mean using an Lc rear wheel. And I'm not sure about that tank filler on the yellow tank ! Very 80's but I have a white/red 2 stripe set that I would probably fit instead. I still don't have a clear direction for the chassis yet - still waiting for that "lightening bolt" moment !! Dusty

Hi I did look at those mate, but I baulk at paying that sort of money just for cases. Aircooled stuff is crazy money now - we think Lc prices are mad but aircooled is worst I think. Plus the aircooled motor seems quite archaic compared to an Lc when I think about it ! They do look great though - I'll always have a soft spot for them Dusty

Hi Dusty it looks like you have got some nice parts there. Porting work to fit the Larger reeds looks very well done. The single reed petal is also something that Mr Farnham has done in the past, though i have never seen that colour material before. It could be reed material developed by Tony Doukas, he made two different spec reed material both coloured differently and sold by EBC. If your curious drop him an email he is very friendly.
I would remove the bit of stud bar in the top engine casing and replace it with an 8,8 stud if you have problems getting one pm me. Also this is just personal preference i think the squish band on the cylinder head looks too wide.
