Hi Steve Yea, I wasn't sure how they would fit an aircooled frame with a Pv engine. I was careful at the early build stage to make sure the engine sat central in the frame as the downpipe exit is obviously very important ! I dont think these could have fitted any better, even if I had taken it up to Jim, which was originally my plan, pre Covid. I dont mind loud !! I had these pipes on my Red/white Lc hybrid, and loved how they sounded, although these have that 80mm exit pipe which may make a bit of difference. Thankfully I've got good neighbours !! Dusty

Hey Mr K. - how are you ? I wasn't too worried regards pipe fitment - if they had been miles out I knew I could sell them on as Ypvs pipes, and then would have to had come up with another plan ! I did have a minor concern after looking at Mouse's Pv frame - the Pv frames aren't as flat under the engine as the Ac's are, and I did wonder whether the pipe would contact the Ac frame where it wouldn't on a valve, but it's fine. The left side was my main concern due to side stand and chain, but I dont think it would fit any better if Jim had the bike up at his place ! It's really good, nice and tucked in and clears with the chain too. I spent today getting the exhaust flanges fitted. I had 2 new pv crush washers, which I glued in place last night with clear silicon gasket goo; 20210312_211453 by dusty miller, on Flickr I wanted to make some spacers for the exhaust flanges - if you fit them without it's easy to bend the edges of the flange when tightening up the bolts. Spacers will allow the flange to crush the washer but not go as far as bending the metal flange. Had to do some careful measuring, then got on the lathe and turned up 4 ali spacers; 20210313_131002 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20210313_135034 by dusty miller, on Flickr I also selected 4 stainless bolts which I had to cut to the right length to get as much thread into the barrel as possible - too shallow a bolt can pull threads out when tightened. Again, did some measuring first, then cut the overlong bolts down, before putting them in the lathe and machining a clean finish on the heads, then polishing them ! (think my OCD is getting worse !!) With the flanges permanently fixed, I could fit the right hand exhaust - easier than the left side !; 20210313_135654 by dusty miller, on Flickr My next job is to cut and shape the rear mounting brackets, from stainless steel strips that Dave packaged with the exhausts. I have drilled a separate mounting hole in the left rearset plate, and can now design the bracket. Even though it wont be seen, I wanted to shape the top edge of the bracket, and used a bench sander I bought from Lidl a few weeks back. Cost about Β£30, but what a great little machine for shaping brackets; 20210313_151633 by dusty miller, on Flickr I can see me using that a lot in the future Dusty

Dusty, i used the same strip for my Alonze pipes but i wish i'd either used thicker plate or a wider triangle bracket as my pipes have quite a bit of movement with only the thin strip....
Think i'm gonna either weld another strip onto it to beef it up or make a wider bracket

Hi The brackets are 2 strips welded together - Dave/Jim supplied 4 strips - 2 for each side; 20190109_185901 by dusty miller, on Flickr Not the clearest pic but there are 2 strips welded together, with the front strip bent forward, the rear strip straight down. I plan to copy that as it was fine on that build Dusty

Made the brackets for the left side exhaust this afternoon. I'm replicating what Jim does as standard, as best I can, so made the angled bracket first, then took the pipe down the road to Glen so he could tack weld it in place; 20210316_190332 by dusty miller, on Flickr 20210316_190633 by dusty miller, on Flickr I then made up another bracket that will be welded to this angled one, but will go straight down onto the pipe and welded in place, to make a strong fixing. Will pop back to Glen tomorrow for the final weld, then I will fit it to the bike and start on the other side, replicating the angle and distance from the swingarm the exhaust needs to be at to be a mirror image of the left side - then I can make the bracket to fit. Cheers mate - took some time to get the bracket right to be honest - not the 5 minute job I thought it would be !! I hope to have it all fully welded by the weekend so I can polish everything and get them fitted Dusty

Looks like a right faff getting them positioned correctly, but you've done a great job (as expected), are they rubber mounted on the back Dusty? Andy.

Hi Andy I plan to make a rubber buffer between the bracket and the footrest hanger, to save some of the vibes getting through ! Dusty

Hi Chris Yea, it's crossed my mind to do a night school welding course. A mate did one some years back but it wasn't cheap, and he has only welded one thing since ! I dont know if I would weld enough stuff to make it worthwhile, plus I am lucky to have Glen down the road who will make such a good job of anything I need doing, I feel it easier just to take stuff to him. I do want to improve my skills with the lathe though, and have just bought a 4 jaw chuck with reversible jaws. My other chuck only had the internal jaws with it which made machining smaller parts difficult - I had to get inventive to make those exhaust flange spacers ! I need another project bike at some point to really get the use from the lathe - virtually all the machined parts for my current 2 bikes are already done. I love using it though, and I'm constantly looking at existing parts that could be shaped/scalloped/improved, but I'm running out !! Dusty

Yep fair play dusty that makes sense πyes the lathe on the other had thers so much can be done on them , especially with a 4 jaw or a face plate ! I'm like that keep thinking hummm what can I turn π€£π€£

Pipes look great Dusty and fitting nice and even. All that fettling has definitely paid off. I agree that rubber mounting will iron out loads of the vibes plus significantly reduce the likelihood of the brackets cracking along those lovely welds. Could you get the hangers machined to take a couple of steel sleeved rubber bushes? That would definitely do the trick. More work thoβ. This is gonna turn out another top special, again, well done. They do look awesome Dusty
Is there enough meat in the hanger to bore a hole the same size as the one in LC standard hangers so you can use the rubber bung and sleeve that goes through it from the LC

Hi Steve Yea, I was thinking along those lines as I have some spare Lc exhaust hanger rubbers in the shed. The footrest plate is 12mm thick so I should be able to do something with them Dusty

Also fitted the new petrol taps that have been in the drawer since I bought them in 2019 20210319_131253 by dusty miller, on Flickr New Yamaha petrol hose fitted. Need to find suitable fibre washers for sealing the tap to the tank. Dusty
