Evening All, As I am asking questions left right n center ( or will be ) thought I would bore you all with my Hybrid....A 1957 Berkerley Se328. Originally powered by a 2 stroke parallel twin a Excelsior 328cc. Air cooled, British, and bloody horrible. Not the engine but the clutch and box, although it did have reverse...did. I have owned a couple of strokers... and persisted for year before thinking about selling it as a lost cause. Gear box and clutch are...orrible! Then FB linked me to a , and this is important, Electric start Rd200dx. The 328 was 18 Hp, the Rd 20Hp. The car is not built to handle much more before other parts will become the weak link, and i am a Yamaha man...it was the right price so...in for a penny, or 15000 pennys and I acquired a Rd200dx engine, carbs, pipes, loom, oil tank, and Gen controller. Condition unknown, stored for ever... Happy days, hone marks on a std bore, clutch free, no carnage, all stock So, made a new cradle, and a unbelievable amount of time and effort this winter, and I now have it running. Starts on the button....Spare pump is off to arrow, as the one fitted is iffy on one side. Pipes are pure guess work..I know tuned length etc etc...they worked on a 150cc scooter....fingers crossed...you try fitting something in the engine bay!! Going Rd250Lc carbs as its a known upgrade...hey winging it... Let you know how it goes, first impressions are great, sounds right , goes right and keeps with the original ethos of the car. Photos worth a thousand words.... Wow that is different, I bet you'll see a difference using the Yam motor.

Electric start Rd200dx. The 328 was 18 Hp, the Rd 20Hp. The car is not built to handle much more before other parts will become the weak link..
If you sat in it you would know why you don't want to go any faster than 20ish HP....

My mate has Berkerley’s and we’ve discussed on several occasions putting a YPVS lump in.
However as mentioned the key to this conversion is the electric start.
I don’t see why you couldn’t find a suitable ring to shrink onto a YPVS flywheel and corresponding starter motor, but don’t know of one the correct size off hand.

I forgot to say, his engine has been converted to a triple cylinder, as the standard twin cases bolt together, he’s using a case from a second engine.

I echo the guy's comments. Great work, love the fabrication - and it's proper mad. The engine has got a bit of room to work on it in the engine bay!
Cheers, Mark
