At Last I found one, about 80 % done so still some tinkering to do but will make a fine companion for the LC Still on standard bore and matching numbers with plenty of compression IMG_1297 by Paul Kerry, on Flickr

That looks like a good pick up Paul, mind if I ask the price? There was a guy advertising a pair of 250’s on Gumtree over in your neck of the woods, so I am wondering if it is one of his?
Seems like your collection is getting pretty reasonable these days, so I will have to up my game by the looks of it!
Have a great Xmas and all the best for 2018.

Just caught sight of the KH250 in the background, so I think it is the guy I mentioned (he also had a yellow 250E).
His advert seemed to suggest the bikes were fully restored, so your description of it being 80% is interesting, or are you just a fussy bugger? 😜
So Xmas came a little early for you by the looks of it!

Yup self confessed fussy and anal buggar Its the same bloke who was advertising on Gumtree here, nice bloke honest and genuine, the bikes are in nice condition restored well but we all like to personalize our toys, I paid a fair price for it which included swopping an X7 which he had been looking for for some time. He's happy and so am I so its a good deal for all. As you said he also had a Kenny Roberts one and a KH 250, both very nice but I always wanted a red and white one so it was an easy choice to make, I'm one short from calling it a day with the collecting just want an RD 400 E or F better start saving and squirelling the money away out of the wifes reach Paul Just caught sight of the KH250 in the background, so I think it is the guy I mentioned (he also had a yellow 250E). See you got the pillion grab rail on them out there, all the mainland European bikes had that too but just not in the UK, strange really. Nice looking though and no salt on the roads to dissolve it in front of your eyes !

Hi Lovely 250e you got there. I've still got a soft spot for the coffin tank aircooleds - had quite a few over the years. The "White Heat" colour combo is just the best . Well done, and enjoy. Dusty

You might struggle to find a 400E Paul, as they are rarer than a rare thing here in Oz. It took me 6 years just to track down a rough but matching numbers project, which I will start restoring in the new year. I have a 250E too but that also needs a resto, so it looks like I am going to be a busy (and poor) man for the foreseeable future!
I did recently manage to pick up a complete but disassembled matching numbers 400F last month for a tidy $500, so my Xmas came early too....😜
Shame you had to get rid of your X7 though. Mine is almost finished and I am hoping to take it to the National VJMC Rally in March.

Nice looking though and no salt on the roads to dissolve it in front of your eyes ! Aussie bikes didn’t have grab rails either, so it must be a Euro seat. Yeah our climate is much kinder to classics in some ways (like less corrosion for instance) but the sun really takes a toll on anything stored outside, so that kills paint and seats etc. Best thing though is prices here are still more affordable than the UK generally speaking, although some folks are starting to get greedy unfortunately.

Thing I'm most looking forward to is tinkering with it and riding it, I'm not up on Windy specs but I have checked the VIN number and engine number and its an Australian delivered bike so at some point someone must have fitted that rear grab rail, think I'll keep it though it looks quite nice.
The climate here is fantastic for bikes and cars I regularly see old Morris minors, Hillman imps and Mini's in superb condition with not a spec of rust on them indeed Christmas day is forecasted for 36 degrees and I still have to pinch myself when I go to the city and see bright sunshine with Xmas decorations, growing up in the UK all I can remember about Xmas was its bloody cold.
I'm sure I will be on this section many many times asking questions and drawing on other peoples knowledge
Merry Xmas all
Paul

You will find a lot of similarities with the LC Paul, so I doubt you will struggle with it. It is probably worth you joining the Aircooled RD club, as there are a lot of friendly and knowledgeable folks on there too.
Have a great Xmas mate and happy trails in 2018.

Very nice Paul, they are a great bike. If you ever have trouble with the header to exhaust gasket/collar/joint give me a shout. Original parts NLA, but easily rectified.
