So...after a lot more measuring and many whatsapp chats and pics the swing arm is out of the LC and wrapped up ready to be sent off. I have to confess I am rather excited about all this. This is the last piece of the puzzle so to speak and when it's done the rest of the bike is all here ready to be bolted back together. Apart from some lock stops that need welding in, and the frame that needs shot blasting and then painting, and maybe a new tank and the paint job to go with it...ah well, it's only money!

Progress! As a lot of you may suspect, Chris is doing the fabricating work on the Mito swingarm, and he's doing a cracking job. Especially as I didn't help at all with my cack handed attempt at grinding the thing down! Sorry mate! So Chris has smoothly ground down the faces and has machined and fitted the outer top hats, his next job is to make an inner spacer. To say I'm pleased is an understatement! Alex

The news just gets better and better. Chris is going to make an adjustable linkage (like he has on his LC) so the ride height can be changed. Bloody brilliant!

Chris has been keeping me up to date with all that is going on. The latest report is some more exact CAD has been made, not far off some fabrication and welding now! This is going to look so cool it'll be cooler than a horde of penguins in sun glasses forcing their way into a polar bears only night club! Alex

Recently a group of pinquins died due angry (stroker?) bees. But anyway is the swinger made from steel? And how much does it weight? Atm busy with an alu szr swinger. Not weight it yet

Mitto swinger is cast aluminium. The cad looks good start and I’m sure Chris has a handle on the strength/load transfer vectors that it will be subjected too. Just need to ensure the turret has side plates that spread load back and forth. Big radiuses or alternatively triangulation from the top down to nearer the rear spindle with box stays. A la TZ etc. Got to remember the current arm is structured for a vertical load on the shock.

But I have a idea , also underneath it's open not solid so I'm going to plate underneath to for added strength

Chris may say he's no expert but damn the man can fabricate and weld. Yes the turret thing needs to be strong and I'm sure it will be. In fact I reckon it'll be over engineered and that's not a bad thing at all.

He's been busy! A 5mm ally plate was cut and shaped to fill the void where the original Mito shock would have gone, just needs welding in now. So this is how it'll look when it's all finished. I know this is just a mock up but I think it looks amazing. Can't wait for the next instalment! Alex

The central plate got welded in today. I am very, very impressed. Next up is to purchase some 8mm plate and fabricate the shock mount. Alex

More metal art! The shock turrets have been cut and tacked into place in readiness for some welding with a water cooled TIG. Damn it looks good. Alex

Thanks lads but credit where it's due. Without help from Chris I'd be pretty much stuck. Like most of us I prefer to do as much as possible in house but this job is way beyond my meagre skills!

My pleasure. Have you ever considered a job in fabrication Chris ? I reckon you would be really good at it !! Great work mate. It's a difficult swingarm to mod. Dusty

You could keep a copy of the templates and sell them as a kit to anyone wanting to convert that arm Be a lot easier for peeps who then only need a welding guy to stick it on I can see it now - C J Racing Dusty

Great work!
Loving the engineering Chris! Great idea about a kit.
I have a few projects, just wish I was a little closer.
