Hi all. My second post. Had the lc a few weeks now. I had been told by previous owner bike had last been started about 2 or so years ago. Howver as I know it had been standing for last 2 years, thought i would pull the carbs off. Well when I did and took them apart I was a little shocked 'to say the least. So as I have an ultrasonic cleaner, thought I would set about trying to see how they will come up. Well to me carbs look possibly shagged. Can any of you kind folk tell me what are my best options. Could they be refurbed or are they beyond. Or is there anyone selling a good pair of carbs or what's a reasonably good price for a set of new carbs. Don't want high performance just reliable. Carb 1 after cleaning. Looks like all ally is pitted still. The pics below are the worst of the 2. Cheers Gareth.

I've seen far worse and they are certainly still useable. Get round them with a toothbrush to loosen it all then put them back in the cleaner again. What cleaning fluid are you using?

Hi mark. That's a glimmer of hope. I have tried water and washing up liquid about 10-20 % wl Not much use. Tried a very strong degreaser called ubec this seemed to work but took the nice coating of alloy. Maybe 2 strong. And a kitchen de greaser like mr muscle. Lol What's best to use.

Pull the needle valve seat out too, as there will probably be some more crud under it! Looking a lot better now. May be worth drilling your big balls out too.....

Don't be worried about destroying the female part of the float valve as they come as a set female is just like a blank end tube with a rubber o ring on od if your struggling maybe try a big self tapper in it then give it some heave ho and wd40. Good luck pal

those carbs have been modified, an old racers trick, you can see they haved been machined on the inlet side of the carb, that might present you with some problems jetting wise, of course, only tackle that if it don't run right when all back together
What model carb are they, 4L0-00 or 4L0-01 ?

The jets that are in or were in are 310. It's on a 350 top end. 250 bottom.

Hi steeley. Brass parts ain't bad, After removing all the white crap from right hand carb, this is how it has turned out. Not great really so need a new carb or new set. Unless this can be restored or is it past that stage.

Or some nice PWK carbs, as you can get an extra couple of BHP with those. :-)

The pitted carb may still work if all the jets fit fine etc. May be worth a try before you bin it, since you already have it. I had one that was pitted fairly badly, but still actually worked fine.
