Thank Dono, I guess that makes sense but it could still chip the pair? Im wondering if the guys who painted my covers didnt do a good job, the black seems to come away from the primer. Phil That’s not good coming away from the primer, the usual problem is it coming away from the aluminum, I used an etching primer then VHT primer then VHT gloss black and finally VHT Lacquer cured in the airing cupboard for 2 weeks and then oven for an hour. I think if the black is coming away from the primer then there was a failing in the painters preparation/process. Cheers Dono

Before chrome plating Nice shiny bits now :-) really pleased with the fantastic finish on the kickstart and brake pedal, however the headstock nut isn’t brill as I can see the chrome has not covered the centre around the whole very well as it’s grinning through nickle .. cost a hell of a lot more than I expected too

Fitted refurbished clutch side case along with window modded by Martin at mad biker design and also chrome plated kick start.. clutch has been upgraded with 3 ebc heavy duty springs, a centre bearing kit on the adjuster from MBD and blue anodised spring washers from Norbo.... need to polish the footrest casting now and refurbish the rear master cylinder before fitting my new shiny brake lever.. the blue silicone hose is the wrong size at 25mm I have ordered a new one 45deg 22mm to 19mm reduction which I am hoping is the perfect size..

Thanks 2scoops, not sure I will be making the standard of some of you guys on here but I can try :-) - finally setup my bench grinder polisher and had a little play: its bloody addictive that’s for sure, I could quite happily do that for a job( I’d have to be faster though to make any penny’s )

That's fantastic. What did you use to get that so shiny? Alex Thanks Alex, I used an aluminum eBay polishing mop kit for my bench grinder, I have put some pics up earlier on in this thread.. used coarse mop with green soap ( heavy cut ) then softer mop with green soap and the soft mop with blue finish soap. I’ve just bought a rough cut Scotch bright mop to speed the first stage up on the other side. It too a fair while as my grinder wouldn’t take too much pressure before it started to slow down.. cheers Dono

I think I might get myself a polishing kit. Some little parts I want to do and one massive one...a frame! Alex

I think I might get myself a polishing kit. Some little parts I want to do and one massive one...a frame! 😊 Alex Hi Alex, I bought a 550 watt 8” bench grinder and then the 6” polishing kit and it’s only just powerful enough, if you can afford a larger motor definitely go that way as it will reduce the polishing time drastically, also look at buying some scotch wheels to start the process - good luck Dono

Rebuilt the rear master cylinder with a repair kit from Norbo.. bled it which was a pain with such a tiny reservoir, will have to buy a tiny funnel for next time .. back brake works great now :-) gutted to report that the clear window has cracked on top left bolt, my original one was cracked when I received it and was convinced that the design was floored.. glad I got the other style of window from JOHN on here, will fit that at a later date with a stainless tuning fork plate.

Bike is looking good Donno, Whats left to do? Yesterday i was asked if i wanted to sell my bike, the man that approached me was an Irish lad. Thanks tobyjugs, jobs to do: polish left footrest hanger, precur and fit spacer behind gear change lever so linkage is truly in line.. take out play in bolt that goes through Nk swing arm conversion and the shock ( not sure what’s going on there until I strip it but I think I’ll need some bushes or something making?) Wavy brake discs, I like the blue EBC ones but they are twice the price of the black ones off eBay :-( Fit some mirrors Fit twin chrome horns Think that’s about it other than make a visit to Mutts to ensure I’ve set the carbs up etc optimally.

Hi Mark Looking really good mate, great job Next time you do the brake fluid, use a syringe - total control that way Keep up the good work Dusty Thanks dusty, yes I’m sure that would have worked well, in fact as I read that I was gutted as I’ve recently given that advice to rapid Gaz on near who was having trouble and it worked brill.. I mused have bread them about 5 times after letting the res run dry each tin agh! Cheers Mark

Not a brill picture, for the side stand however I welded a blob is on the side of the side stand to stand it off the expansion cambers and also a little on the opposite side so that the bike would sit up a little more when on the side stand.. the picture better depicts the 10mm bush and longer pan head socket screw fitted to obtain a parallel gear linkage in the hope that this would be just one more thing in the search of an easy neutral..

So after the second of my clutch windows cracking, I have changed the design to the thinner window with one large o ring round the outside and three little o rings around the bolt holes.. supplied by JOHN on here. I really liked the original windows with there chunky design and a plain window, however in my opinion the counter bored holes are too deep and don’t give enough material between the bottom of the bore and the oil seal groove on the inside.. the hole that failed was one of the top holes, and it had only just been nipped up so as just to start compressing the seal very gently.. I have used a polished SS plate on the new style which spreads the load out and doesn’t look too bad..

Nice work Dono, like that a lot. Mark😀 Thanks Mark, she’s started to look pretty now. And she runs really well out on the road without any clutch slip :-) I think I have got the jetting right also as she is nice and responsive without any pinking etc. Want to do a plug chop though to feel safer then get her over to mutts for perfection..

Made a drill jig using cardboard first then cut contour on some 2x1 and marked out the holes with the pitch of the yoke plastic trim holes .. tie wrapped it to the yoke and drilled through 4.2mm for tapping m5

Post by dono on May 12, 2018 20:56:37 GMT 1
Tapped the two holes m5 and also while I had my tapping kit out drilled and tapped the turn lock boss so that I could fit an m3 dome head socket screw to give me more clearance on the top yoke which was hitting the tank..

Fitted two small brackets with a little bend in using SS m5 stud and two spacers which I ground an angle on so I could get maximum clamping force onto the bracket... Fastened two lock nuts over the bracket then spacer..then on with the twin horns..

Fitted the plastic yoke cover and finished off with dome nuts.. It’s not as good as dustiest bracket but I think the final result is ok .
