And another one I've just read all the way through! Love the bike, very impressed with your tank decal respray, and those pipes just make her look superb. One thing no one answered was mirrors. In my youth I never bothered, just glanced back occasionally, usually to see some blue flashing lights...but with age and the increased odds of a cricked neck I put one on my last LC. Didn't look that out of place and at least I could see if the buggers were behind me!

Alex Thanks Donkeychomp, yes was super pleased the decal touch up worked out so well, saved so much effort replacing the decal. Yes really happy with how the pipes look on her too, plus the do sound fantastic! Hopefully by the summer I will have had her over to Muttsnutts and had a good session on his dyno to ensure I’m getting the best out of them and more importantly not running her over lean.. ref the mirrors, thanks and to stusco , think I will put some on, it’s real pants not being able to see behind.. Cheers Dono

Clutch side engine cover removed, to fit new shift pro and spring, blimey it’s underneath the gear selector and got to remove the clutch basket also! I didn’t expect that.. anyhow thanks to help from my son Max it’s now in place, it was fiddly to hold spring back and put screw in while holding it lined up.. sending case away now to be cut for clear window and waiting for pretty blue spring washers to arrive, also had to order new standard springs as mine were compressed, I’m fitting three standard and three heavy duty..

And here it is.. Not photographed it yet, but made a big mistake, bought some etc heavy duty clutch springs from MBD, after reading on this forum that they are the right springs:-) yeah. I then measured the length on my original springs and although they were not out of spec, they were more compressed than new spec. So I thought while I’ve got the case off I will replace the three standard springs in leaving in with new ones.. Norbo hasn’t advertised them on his site and unfortunately my brain didn’t engage to send him a quick email, so I bought a set of standard springs from Yamabit.. when they arrived they looked fat, I measured them and the spring wire dia is 2.85, standard is 2.3 ebc heavy duty was 2.38 .. so standard springs from yamabits are a frickin mile out of spec, there definitely not going in my baby 👶

Clutch side casing drying out in airing cupboard ready for self etch primer tomorrow along with handle bar clamps.. I had decided to paint myself instead of powder coat as I didn’t want to take out the water pump bearing, thinking it would be difficult. well that was a mistake as after I rubbed down the casing I washed it in really hot water with a bit of fairy liquid and the bloody thing fell out lol. I spent £46 on paint so I hope the finish is good as I’m sure the powder coating would have been cheaper. Any how it gave me a good chance to inspect the bearing and water pump shaft seal, bearing is perfect and the seal looks to be perfect too.

Not the best of pictures but case and other bits all finished with VHT gloss black and lacquer, it says to bake for 1 hr at 93c I’ve got a plastic part that I obviously don’t want to do that with, so I have a question, do you think leaving it to cure in the airing cupboard which must be in the high 20,s for days would work just like cooking meat in a slow cooker? Cheers Dono

Re built my clocks again with new proper dial rather than decals and one new replacement neadle. Didn’t Go quite to plan though as I smashed the glass on speedo :-( I tried to make the bezel a better shape with my hammer dogh! Really cross with myself but thanks to Spooch63 on here who rescued the situation with suppling me with a new glass and bezel I’ve managed to get the job done and stop stressing Thanks Paul for helping me get a new set of super looking clocks! Also thanks to wangwang for his help too.. we’ve got a fantastic forum here with a brilliant set of members :-)

Thanks Mouse and Dusty, there back on the bike now and I’m really please d with them looking as new.. it was a rotten job this time around for sure. Had to build the speedo 4 times including smashing the glass, realizing the internal metal light reflector had com loose then the last one was the blooming needle had come off as I peened over the bezel lip..the wiring inside the light was also its usual nightmare. Need to fit engine case on on now.. I’ve sent the brake pedal and kick start away to get chrome plated and removed the foot rests for polishing.. she should be looking really pretty by the spring time..

Just a question for all here, with the painted cases does the paint chip easily where the bolts tighten against it? I had some cases painted with two pack a while ago and when I tightened each bolt the paint chipped. Very annoying.

Hi Phil Did you use a plain washer under the head of the bolts ? If you don't then you stress the paint by tightening against it. Will happen with powdercoat too. Dusty

Great work on the clocks Dono - they are a bit fiddly. Dusty showed me how to restore them a while back, and like most things - easy once it's been explained.
Keep up the good work
Cheers, Mark

I had some cases painted with two pack a while ago and when I tightened each bolt the paint chipped. Very annoying. Hi Phil, I spent hours painting and polishing my clutch case, so wasn’t going to tighten cap head screws right up to it, as you tighten the screw the head twists and scraps along with huge surface area forces, so I bought some stainless flat washers off eBay, got 50 for about £1.20 Cheers Dono

Thank Dono, I guess that makes sense but it could still chip the pair? Im wondering if the guys who painted my covers didnt do a good job, the black seems to come away from the primer.

Cheers, Mark Thanks Mark, yes easy, but a blooming pain in the butt! Still it does make a huge difference and I’m really happy with them and super relived now I have a new glass, it’s a million miles from how they were with the white dial decals fitted. Love the finish on the replacement dials, it’s great I was able to get hold of the dials rather than using decals.. cheers Dono
