Hi. Just thought I would start a survey of peoples favourite colour scheme for the original rd350lc 1980 as I am about to have mine painted. I can't decide between the original white with red stripes, the Kenny Roberts colour scheme, or to have a custom paint job. My feeling is that for resale value the original colour scheme is safest but I kinda like the Kenny Roberts look. Do you think it makes a big difference to value?

Hi I think standard, original spec bikes do best with standard original spec paintwork. A wacky or poorly done scheme can lessen interest and therefore resale value, and we all know that a good remedial job isn't cheap. If you build none standard bikes/hybrids, then I don't think it matters quite as much but an 80's shell suit design is still pants no matter what it is applied to ! I've got 2 hybrids which are far from standard so I went with what I wanted. On one of them the scheme has been done a few times, the other not that I know of, but it's good quality paint and decals done by Mark Cordwell on new tank and panel sets, so hopefully wont lessen the value of the bikes. I'd personally go with what you want, not what you think a possible future buyer would want Dusty

I keep swinging between what I want and original. I'm kinda edging towards red Kenny Roberts blocks on white paint.

That would look really nice. I went with that myself after seeing a few others like it; 20170402_114916 by David Miller, on Flickr Red/white is a Yam combination, and the Tz colours or Kr design would never look out of place on an Lc imo Dusty

Just got mine back from the paint shop, had it done in Kenny Roberts yellow with the usual black speed blocks, fulfilled a teenage dream !! Just got to get the rest of the bike finished now then get it fitted.

Whilst I personally prefer standard colours, I have seen some really nice variations of the standard theme that work really well imho.
I would shy away from something that was too 'out there' or at least look to negotiate a discount to allow for a repaint.

My thoughts are if you intend to sell standard paint but if it's a keeper then whatever pleases you.

Any two stripe original for me. I always seem to see Blue and White or Mars Bar bikes. Less so the Red and White and Candy Blue.
None standard, Grey with the stripes from a Candy Blue looks nice.

Yeah i really like that Veg, can't wait to see it fitted. Especially when you can see the blue TZ cylinder head bolts peeking out from under the tank

If it's a standard bike, then I think a standard paint job is definitely the way to go, but if it's a hybrid/special, you should let your imagination go mad, there have been some belting paint jobs recently, and long may it continue.
