Had this a few years now and been slowly modding it and now makes as much power as my tuned YPVS engine
Original bike made 54bhp and 44 pounds torque Gutted airbox and free flowing exhausts and an ignition mod got 61bhp and 48 pounds torque 865 barrels and Keihin CR 35 smoothbore carbs and some DIY cleaning up of the inlet tracks netted 69bhp and 59 pounds of torque
Pretty low for a modern bike but now has some oomph to overtake the tin boxes

Yes I did but browsed for loads of pics and info before hand ! Getting into the internals of the engine was the most daunting bit though and when I was filing the inlet ports with my little rat files I was waiting for a hand to grab me round the neck to say "What the f##k are you doing" LOL
Well pleased with the torque

Was it the engine performance that put you off or other things ?
I have never ridden an old Bonneville so can't compare really

Yep it was the engine performance I tried a scrambler first but that was pathetic my 750 v was better the bonnivile was better , the salesman kept banging on about it being classic bike , which in my eyes it isn't I rode mine down and pointed at it saying that's classic bike

No it's not a classic bike but a copy and I would bet heavier too I have been putting mine on a diet too but have ran out of things to take off
Think the Scrambler had less power and the 270 crank
I have a Buell which has a tuned 1200 Sportster engine and I guess I unfairly compare the engine to that which is about 89 BHP and 79 pounds of torque which the new Triumph 1200 engines now have !

This is a list of the mods I did Replacement front forks (old ones were shagged) Thruxton fork internals which basically give the forks some pre load adjustment Thruxton front wheel (old one was 19 inch,Thruxton is 18 inch and alloy) Thruxton rear wheel with newer "straight" spoke hub LSL Clubman 1 inch bars Alloy single clock mount Fork Gaitors Chunky lockable fuel cap Mirror hole blanks Rear mudguard eliminator with Lucas style rear light (Maund) Thruxton front mudguard (will need modding to fit) Honda 3 piston front caliper to replace standard 2 piston caliper (Bolts straight in [-o< ) Thruxton Gel seat Thruxton seat cowl Angel eye headlamp to fit inside standard shell (looks more retro !!) Stainless Predator silencers Thruxton header pipes so the Predators would fit new exhaust studs Alloy bullet style indicators and rear locator brackets (Maund) Thruxton rear shocks (Longer) (Now TEC Shocks) Removed air injection system New horn Skid plate EBC Front Floating Disc (Old disc worn out and pretty heavy) Rebuilt rear brake caliper with stainless pistons Stainless brake hoses front and rear TEC Rear Shocks ( Cheap but a great improvement) Plastic Side Panels (To Replace Heavier Metal Ones) 865 Barrels from later models Keihin 35mm smoothbore carbs (120 mains, 60 pilot, clip #4 needle) Gutted airbox with Bellmouth and K&N filter new coil TTP modded ignition box Louder Horn ! Titanium engine cover bolts TTP safe start 2013 clutch basket Lighter aftermarket front sprocket cover Removed rear foot pegs Garden Gate style tank badges
The engine mods since I first had it have about a 28% gain in bhp and a 34% gain in torque

Aftermarket sprocket cover now Huge saving in weight and the old cover was really a fake cover to resemble the gearbox of the original Triumphs Next is to remove the rear footrests as I have the seat hump anyway (even though it comes off !)

Someone dynode one of the new 1200 motors and got 86Ft pounds of torque
They used to take the piss out of Harley engines for lack of power but the Triumphs can easily wear the same crown

I have looked at the new bonnie/thruxtons. I did read about a tuner was it terry beckett? that did loads of tuning with these, certainly someone with previous with 2 strokes. Nice bikes.

I have a Buell M2 and that was dynoed at 89 BHP and 79 Pounds torque
It was Bob Farnham who dabbled in he Trumpet inners but I think he has retired now or semi retired
I have a hoot on this bike though and if I can shed a few more pounds Chuck out the twin balancer shafts LOL I bought a box of spare engine bits and the balancer shafts came with the job lot and they weigh a ton

Cheers chaps yes it was bob farnham. I do love buells, I always had a soft spot for the S1 White lightning and nearly bought one. I always wanted a torquey twin that was light the closest I ever got was my 1000 multistrada shame it looked like a pig with lipstick. God I am now on ebay looking. Reverse cone megas mmmm. I had a T120 that was light relatively pokey and was probably my best bike ever apart from when it used to break down, leak oil vibrate things off, which actually was every ride.

Most of the people i know own Ducati's and one has a Multistrada, that's the second Ducati i have thought is Fugly. First place goes to that thing that looks like a jelly mould. The rest look brilliant. I love the Monster best.

That looks nice! Quite fancy a Thruxton loved the look of them when they came out still like them now, was never too sure if the lack of power compared to the weight would put me off! Then cafe racers became fashionable so I parked the idea until beards n cafe racers go out of fashion then I'll do both

Changed the tank badges for the more classic looking garden gate/mouth organ style and got some blanks to cover up where the rear foot rests were

Come on, Multistrada, ugly, ok, i'll give you that, but it does everything i need it to and a bit more, especially with the Ohlins suspensions, a bit Marmite, yes. Love thr Triumph, wouldn't mind a try of one myself. Andy. SL370562 by Andrew Jolly, on Flickr SL370567 by Andrew Jolly, on Flickr

Got a Fandango oil temperature gauge that sits in the filler cap These engines run hot and in traffic they start cooking so will be interesting what it reaches In the notes it says 80 degrees is the oil running temperature ?
