for real pitted/rough stuff u should have a mop which looks like one of them string doormats? then a stitched cotton one for gettin out finer marks then another just plain mop for purely polishin.but b4 u polish u Must remove all the other cuttin compound residue first. but after sayin all that............if u sand the alloy down first goin down to 600grit u shouldnt need the rough mop/soap as long as u sand out all the pits. here endeth the lesson for today ;D

loopster................there is stuff made by "Second Skin" for the front of the bellypan and its about £60 if i remember rightly.i aint payin that for a bit of sticky clear vinyl + its too l8 now coz theres stonechips already........on bellypan,up side of bellypan (thats the problem with new bikes all bein tapered for aerodynamics ) side fairings and top fairing the only way to stop it would be cover the whole bike or dont ride it i do appreciate ur effort and suggestions though ta

Mellow, I'm truly inspired!!!!!! the polishing is pure class!
My fella has an RD350R and RD350 FII which are in completely stripped and rebuild phase respectively. I'm helping him, and appear to have become chief polisher cos he gets bored! I've done the forks, and I'm working on the swinging arm and footpegs at the moment. Looking at these pics has given me the motivation to crack on with it again, after a few days off to regain my sanity! I may need a few hints and tips along the way

the reason the forks shine m8 is coz they are alloy the swingarm is steel....as i said id get sum paint on it if i were u I had reservations about doing the swingarm, but him indoors wanted it all shiney! and this was the end result, but like Zeb says, first sign of any corrosion, it's powdercoated/sprayed. Re: how I got it so shiney - same way I did the forks, took 8hrs but got there in the end. It had a chrome effect paint on it that I stripped, and then 80, 120, and 300grit before using the soaps.
