how do you get the hangers show shinney? Probaly with a polishing wheel. I have just finished polishing up boost bottles and you can get a realy nice shine with the right kit. You can see them on the wanted and forsale page. Bling bling 10 points to norbo ;)polishing kit.......if theres deep pits i use 320 grade wet n dry then work down with the 3 types of mop and cutting compound.then BLING BLING shiny ;D NORBO..........u didnt say wot u use for the de-carboning of valves and head m8 ???or is it a trade secret?

Its no secret . Scrape the hard carbon of with a smooth knife not one with small serations on. Wire wheel them down then wet and dry anything left . Simple.

cheers the swingarm was shotblasted then couple of coats of etch primer then 2 pack primer then sprayed with Fine Alluminium colour paint (at least i think thats wot me m8 said it was ) not sure if he laquered it after but its quite shiny.........i must ask him the frame is a bit awkward to price.........i had the frame, swingarm, bottom yoke, headlamp cradle, rear brake pipe clip and relay arm shotblasted and then all them bits powder coated apart from the swingarm n it cost £120. hope that helps

with a polishin kit from M and P made by Mr Fastner.i sand most of the deep pits out with 320 grade wet n dry paper then just use the 3 different grades of polishin soaps n mops n there u have it

sounds to easy
how long does each bit take?
|
|
|
Post by mellow on Jan 9, 2006 16:29:28 GMT 1
if i did it solidly it would b about 7hrs i spose but i normally sand down one day then polish the next. cant do it all in one day due to sore fingers from sandin DIRTBAG............honest they aint chrome.they aint even perfect.if u got real close u would see tiny pits still but they look good enough n they had enough time spent on them now

I know what you meen . I used to do polishing for other people and you just cant charge for the time it takes to do a real good job. Allthough i do have better kit then the m&P stuff it still takes me a long time to do stuff 1 boost botle takes about 2 hours to take the welds of linish down and polish . I only wish they stayed so shiney .

do u use the coarse compound n the mop that looks like a string doormat to do the welds norbo shouldnt take long with that? as for keepin shiny i only give mine a rub over once every couple of months with MAAS cream. wot kit u got then? the Mr.Fastner kit i got from M&P is top notch gear mate u can even phone them n they give advice if u need it

I dont use a kit i get mops ans compounds from polishibng suppliers as i need them. It takes so long becourse of the welds and linishing out all marks befor i polish . The more time you spend linishing down the better job you get with the polishing .

yep i agree with that i sand the worst pitting out coz its quicker than polishin with the course mop but the coarse mop and soap i have will smooth welds right down as long as its shiny at the end thats cool

yes m8 its called Vienna Lime.u r sposed to dust it onto the bit u have polished n its supposed to remove the grease film left by the polishing soap. i dont use it coz it dont seem to do much.i use MAAS cream to clean the grease off.its like autosol but finer.i think its the same as autoglym metal polish m8. hope this helps.n e more questions feel free 2 ask

superb job with the polishing I know how long it takes cos I did the same to my LC2 brackets. Impressed you had a go at the F2 footpeg brackets I was going to do mine but thought it impossible cos of the dimpled finish but you have done it Pete

CHRISMAC.......................... m8 it takes ages,u cant do it in 5 mins my m8 thought it could b done in an hr or so but the end result shows all main thing to do is get all pits/scratches etc out with the straw lookin mop and brown soap.dont b afraid to add a bit more pressure if the pits etc are deep. once they are nearly all gone switch to the stitched mop and the white soap. use that until all marks are gone.may take a while dependin how much u left to polish out. once u done that u clean ALL residue of cutting compounds off,i use autosol or MAAS creme. then use the other mop with the blue soap till its shiny NUTTYBIRD yup it most certainly is a brand spankin new shock from my local bike dealer.and it was in stock which was even better ;D
