bloody one step forward two steps back , front brake or now lack of front brake, tried to find out why it was binding?, bloody seals gone and now the pistons stuck (getting a mate to blast it out with high pressure air gun needs a recon (as well as a repaint its fooked with all that mucking around with it).spent all day Sunday trying to free it up ended with me putting on the front mudguard only! as a consequence did not have time to take out the thermostat so hopefully this weekend for that. got a surprise in that i have just inherited a grand (soon anyway), now i am seriously thinking of NITROUS as well as a stage 2 tune (keep reliability like). this thing is going to be a 'pocket rocket'. radio 80/125 off air...........

should have expected teething problems: checked the thermostat = good works, has to be the big end! bollocks! any way i think the crank case seals are shot shes eating engine oil, (lots of oil coming out of micron engine joint), so might as well get them both done at the same time. sprocket seal also gone (much easier to do). so winter work is; rebuild engine with new seals and big end, new sprocket seals stage 1/2 tune (money permitting, either farhon or farnham) price up nitrous system. (again money allowing) sort out other small cosmetic stuff (fittings cable routing etc etc) only positive of weekend is got the new front inner tube on without puncturing it so at last i can push it around easily. now there's no rush (on set of winter) should have it done by next summer ( ). news and reviews as it happens, radio 80/125 off air..........

how ever much you/i would like to see the "guts" of my bike (again) i have to bow to a superior repairer. been phoning/googling around and my local bike shop and have come to a decision........................... Stan Stephens is going to rebuild it (whatever needs doing, and to stop a possible future disaster) along with a stage 3 tune. yes a stage 3 with a fully working p/v in a 125 lc ever been done? ? bring on the plastic rocket oh yes ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D. ( i can see it coming some of you say yes, some of you say take your chances, some of you say its you funeral, but hey it's the best/cheapest option OK)

slight change of plan, got a lovely bloke on the rd125lc forum (who lives just down the road) who has the necessary tooling and experience to do the rebuild the engine (had his own shop), and has his own mx tuner to boot, bloody marvelous. keep you informed as to the progress........

HAVE I DONE THE RIGHT THING???
i've quit tennis court building after 20 years, simply had enough plus getting very hard on the body and wallet (other factors as well but some very personal). started a new job at (of all bloody places) Sainsbury's, as an on-line delivery driver. big problem is a massive pay cut, gonna affect the finishing of this project, got to be scrooge with the dosh now. hopefully it will work out as i'm selling the van so that's nearly £7000.00 a year not spent (yep that's how much it cost in total to run the van last year, fuel, tax, insurance, etc etc)
got a little put away so there's not much to do i really want to finish it its sooooooo close now.

well mate,a good friend of mine worked for sainsburys for around 10 years,he worked his way up from the bottom and the last few years he was store manager, earning £30k a year (aparently),anyway he got made redundant at 50 years,he got a big enough pay out to buy a chips away smart repair franchise and pay a chunk of his mortgage off. as you know jamie as one door closes another opens, ive always got my eye open for a new job. good luck any way mate,if you can afford the pay cut atleast you will have a far less stressfull life, when your shift finishes you dont have to worry about work untill you start again.

As quoted above i have had a change of job, this in turn has bought new problems; money (lack off), and god awful shifts ((inc weekends). As a result the hybrid has been on the back burner, until now. just inherited a bit of cash and am now able to get the motor off to be overhauled (seals, bearing etc etc). so in the next few weeks this will be done and final assembly can be completed. hope to have a video of it running as well....... thanks for the waiting..........

been in contact with the engine builder tuner, i don't actually know the guy tuning it, but he has spent the last decades tuning MX dirt bikes. as we all know the 2 stroke is basically a pump, and to this he has tuned the bottom end to make it more efficient. the 125 lc crank is somewhat 'basic' in its design, with very little recuperating mass, so he has made nylon 'blanks' that 'fill' in the space around the big end to give it much better pumping (compression). to off set the added weight the fly wheel is going to be skimmed and the whole lot balanced. then the barrel and crank is to be 'matched' to the engine casings. next the port timings are to be matched (using a degree wheel), and fettled with and polished. lastly the head is going to be skimmed and the squish area machined correctly and additional combustion area added to optimise combustion. (bloody hell what am i on about ;D) new bottom end, con rod, seals and bearings have been added as well as new sprocket seals and any other bearing that needed replacing (they all were checked under a microscope). a week or so more before its ready yet...... the seat now has its new cover on, and the front brake is now cleaned repainted awaiting the new seal repair kit. all that is left to do is small fiddly stuff like setting up the gear lever angles and shite like that. i can't wait the engine is going to be a missile (the tuner) recons it should do the ton easily ;D

some very good news people........the engine will be ready with in the next few weeks hurray. there has been a hell of a lot of tuning work done to the engine, a real piece of art. the tuner has asked me not to divulge all of his work but the above just about covers it plus loads of extra bottom end work the likes of the 'main' tuners would not do. i cannot wait to have it back and finally test it out and get it on the road legally. the suns been out down here so happy days ahead for riding wise (famous last words no doubt ) there might even be an original 80lc fairing on (middle of negotiations). still working out a better way to fit the belly 125 pan (the 80lc simply wont fit with the 125 micron). next when money permits blue samco style hoses to really finish it off along with the blue l.e.d.s ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

i see you've done the sensible thing and gone for reliability over speed ;D ;D ;D. gonna be a cracking little bike when it's done Jamie hummmm do you think , not really the tuner recons it should pull the magic ton easily in this state of tune AND keep it reliable. if i go premix (and there's more to come (tuning wise) if i want it) it may go faster. the main reasons are the light weight of the rolling chassis nearly 20kg's over the standard 125lc. (plus the stage 3 tuning works i suppose ;D ;D).

hooray ;D ;D ;D ;D the engine is back, rebuilt and tuned. had a look inside and a work of art i can tell you. just a few minor scratch marks to sort out and back in the frame. while its been out had a chance to think of even more bling, so as long as it looks good i'll do it.
work hours are shite at the mo so not enough time to finish it in one session, (bloody shame) but as said before can't rush the last bit can we.
full spec and photo's as well as list of 'credits/thank yous' in time.

engines back in the frame, added necessary liquids and fired up 3 kick, sounds bloody lovely. had to modify the throttle cable to get the oil pump to work correctly and now have a hybrid cable; 80lc top then dt125lc bottom to carb and pump. changes from above photo include; rz50 handle bars, recovered seat (again blue with logo), rebuilt from brake with new seals and pads as well as repainted caliper, some 'links' one off stainless items added.
weathers been shite (rain) down here so no photos as yet, and only a small shed to work in so slow progress but as i said before getting there............
(suns out at the moment so i'm off to give the tzr a thrashing)

Come on mate i need to know have you taken it out for a thrash yet thrashed the tzr.............not the hybrid yet, having problems with the fueling at the moment and gear linkage issues. spent TWO days fixing the little lock on the 'tool box' lid to make it work and look right. a few other little niggles then it should be right to run sorry for the delay but silly working hours and a quest for near perfection ( ;D) is holding me back. as i have said before don't want to rush at the last hurdle just for it to 'not work' properly.

its been a while (unemployed see) but have managed to get another part......... as possibly said before i have had major problems with the inlet/air filter location. i have changed the inlet rubber from the 'offset' dt one to a 'straight' rd one (thanks malc). this has given me a little more room to play with but still not enough room to fit the filter on direct (even though i wouldn't do that, i want a ledar set up for better carburation) i have had a special 'hose/pipe' made so that the air filter can be mounted at the required angle to allow a decent flow to the carb and miss the shock spring movement (when riding). with this part i can finally get the carb settings sorted and get the entire back end on for good. just waiting on a certain someone to help out with the last of the parts so the front end can be completed then it will be finished (at last). thanks for the wait Jamie.
