Took my 250e out for a ride, it was lovely. I did 50 miles trouble free riding. Finished off in Wantage for a Panini and Cappuccino. Anyone else take advantage of the weather today??

Repacked my Microns on the 250e this morning as they were deafening. When i say repacked, i removed the end caps and put some packing in, they were totally empty. They sound much better now , maybe even giving a little more accelearation. Then took it out for another 50 miles, runs like a dream. Ive got to say ive owned a lot of different bikes in the last 15 to 20 years and no other bikes draw as much attention as this aircooled RD. I was held at the lights in Wallingford at some old boy tapped me on shoulder and said " is it an rd250?" He then went on that he had always wanted one. Meanwhile the lights had changed to green and i was getting angry beeps from behind. I took off and gave it some throttle and he was giving it the big thumbs up!!
Then went for a coffee at the H cafe loads of bikes there but i was the only 2 stroke out of 200 bikes!!
Where are you all?

Just picked up a donor 250E for my 400E project but now having second thoughts about possibly trashing it. The 250's aren't very sought after here, so it wouldn't make financial sense to throw shedloads of money at it.
Had one at 17 and the old heartstrings are tugging a bit at the moment tbh. Perhaps I will strip what I need off it for now and stick it at the back of the lockup, to think about it.
Nice little bikes the 250's, much smoother than the 400's but it would likely feel like I was two-up on it, given that I am not as slim as I was back then! 😳

What would you take off the 250 to sort out the 400? Could you cafe the 250 or something and keep it as a viable bike?

I need most of the cycle parts for the 400E (tank, seat, footrests, stand, mudguards, lockset engine cases, chainguard & both side panel), as the 400 was stood outside for 25 years. Rgds Ozhammer

Engine cases on the 400 are different to the 250...... You can't put a 400 crank in them.... unkess you mean side covers not crankcases?

Yeah it's the outer cases not the crankcases I want to swap over. The engine runs really nicely on the 250, very quiet, so it seems someone has previously done a rebuild on it. Knowing me, I will end up restoring it and having a matching pair, although god knows where I will keep it as the lock up is overflowing at the moment.
I could move my X7 on but I really have a problem selling bikes once I have bought them, which is probably a regret hangover from all the great bikes that I have sold in the past.....😳 The fact that two of them are being stored at a mate's workshop probably tells me that I have too many but you can never have too many can you? 😜

Ha ha, this is reflecting the other "regrets" thread. Keep the X7, you'll never be able to replace it. Build a sturdy shelf and start stacking your bikes!

If I even contemplate stacking bikes, I will be in real trouble! 😳
I have enough projects to keep me busy for the rest of the decade, so I need to stop browsing bike sites, as there is always something to tempt me!

Rgds Ozhammer I have that problem...almost caused a family intervention 😀 For some reason there is one part of me that finds a box of parts (typically about 2/3 of bike) so much more appealing than a bike that works. I can add it to the 1/2 a bikes worth of left over parts to make almost one compete one plus some bits. Great ! Then I see a bike in parts that's basically just missing those bits.... The only redeeming aspect is that it's a relatively cheap hobby, most stuff would sell to return what was spent and it keeps me from getting into more serious mischief.
