Well it’s at least 30kg lighter than standard I would be really interested in getting it weighed so 60plus hp should make for an interesting ride

So it’s on its way back from Dave’s on Saturday and unfortunately it isn’t good news. The pipes are useless below 9000 rpm then it comes in with a huge bang and the clutch slips basically it’s not very useable. So I have a few choices. Keep the motor and put some miles on it run the crank and rings in etc. Then get a better set of pipes made by Dave. This should make it more useable. Use it as it is then rebuild the motor every time the crank goes as it will be having to be used at over 10,000 rpm constantly. Expensive and annoying. Sell the tz700 top end pipes etc etc and the rebuilt 4lo bottom end and accept the painful truth that it needs a ypvs motor to make decent reliable power.

Cant you get Dave to sort some new pipes while it's with him ? Be a shame to pull the engine and replace it after all the work you've done Dusty

Meant to add that option 2 isn't really an option. Riding it flat out everywhere will end badly I'm sure, either for you, the bike or probably both. Plus rebuilds seem to get more expensive every year - you'll soon tire of the hassle and cost of a knacked crank. I'd go with better pipes now, if it were me Dusty

It’s a new engine so I need to get some miles under load on it as he doesn’t want to have to keep taking it to 10’000 plus rpm until I’ve given the bores and crank a chance to bed in. I’m not really surprised it is a race top end.

Hi Veg sorry to hear that it's too peaky for you.
I would think the port timing for a TZ engine to be extreme. Will a set of pipes be enough to make it rideable under 8000 rpm?
Is the crank a normal 4LO crank or something else?

I have a bike with a TZ750/4LO motor in it and it is a tractor, an absolute joy to ride, it's my bike of choice almost every time. The cylinder was ported by ED Erlanbach here in the states, I'm running V-Force4 reeds for a yamaha Blaster, 34mm lectrons (soon to be 38mm) and pipes by Dave Swarbrick. It is not peaky at all, I'm sure once I get the 38mm Lectrons on it and running I will notice a bit of bottom end loss but they are HV carbs so it shouldnt be too much of a loss according to Lectron. I would have some different pipes built if I were you. I know Lectrons scare alot of people because they are meant for racing but they carburate excellent and work perfectly on these motors, very easy to set up. I'm even still using the autolube system - NO PREMIX, I love it. It gets such awful mileage though it would be a huge PITA to run premix since i have no space to carry anything on the bike and i don't use a backpack when I ride.

You'll have to do summat about that tache though... that's a real problem. You don't have to go fast..... ask Mick.....

So she is nearly done. Got to get some miles on it as I need new pipes as the pipes are ex race tz350 she makes 43 bhp up to 9000 rpm then comes in to power that the clutch slips and dave doesn’t want to over Rev my new engine. Couple of tweaks needed basically T piece for the fuel lines New front tank rubber as it has got lost somewhere Change rear tyre for an 80 profile not the 90 fitted New pipes to be made to really unleash the beast. 3 years of my life blood sweat and tears have gone into this build she will make good power and she is a good 30kgs lighter than a standard one. I would like to thank the following people Dave Trubrit whose advice inspiration and help without all of that this build would never have happened Dave Muttsnutts for the same both invaluable members whose knowledge is second to none The usual suspects dusty, tobyjuggs, oeb, donkeychomp 4lo4ever and even Matt and Steve all if you kept me sane and focused with your encouragement and piss taking. Anyone else not mentioned thanks. But mainly I would like to thank myself for being stupid enough to not understand what a huge undertaking this would be. Cheers chaps Tim

All credit to you Tim, that bike looks fantastic. I love the paint scheme - you will see that on a lot more bikes in the future for sure, and the efforts you have gone to to make this bike unique have been well worth it. Once you get the pipes sorted this will be a very quick Lc👍 Now, you had better start another one 😉😁
Enjoy
Dusty😉
