OK so I made a bit of a c**kup on my RD400D engine build and fitted a newly rebuilt RD400E crank.
I then stuck my rose coloured glasses on and thought well why not fit the E series electrics to my D series getting rid of those despicable points.
I already have a 400E CDI and a couple of banshee coils (if they work on a LC they should work on a late 400 so my thinking goes)
I'll be ordering a E series loom and reg/rec from norbo and Im on the hunt for an E stator and flywheel.
So problems: -
Some say the ignition switch and kill switch are different on the E, anyone know who to tell them apart as my ignition and kill switch I just found in a box of spares and I dont know if its a D or an E.
Electric plate is different again I dont know how to identify an E one and I have a couple electric plates.
CDI mounting, anyone got a picture?
Anything else anyone can think of?

Hi Harry,
Watch out on the loom, the E and F models had about 3 different types fitted and they are quite different. Easiest way to tell is see what plugs you ahve on your CDI unit. You will have to change most of the plugs on the loom to get it to match (Norbo did have bags of loom side connectors that may help.
Ignition switches are different you may need to swap a couple of wires round to get it to work. Pretty sure kill switch is the same but will be wired differently so again some changes maybe needed
CDI mounts to the frame below the battery box, Ill try and get a pic for you later.
Not sure what you mean about Electric plate?
Your LH side casing wont fit with E stator and back plate as it has an extra lump for the CDI pick up so youll need an E one.

Yesterday I went to meet a nice bloke near Carnforth with a big shed full of stuff.
Managed to bag the right electric plate with a reg/ rec on it, a flywheel, D kickstart, big load resistor or diode thing (dunno if thats a D or a E item but it was there so I thought I would bag it), chain guard side case but no flywheel side case and another front master cylinder.
I have also got a couple of leads to follow to see if they have the stator and backplate
So Im getting nearer.
