Hi, I joined this site initially for the LC content and had a great time and lots of support in the rebuilding of a couple of LC's to remind me of my youth. I'd now like to expand this and build and or ride an RD200 similar to what I had back in the day... I don't remember much about the spec, in those days we just bought one and rode it to death, but I think it was a 1977 ish model with wire wheels. It was silver but i rattle cannned the top of the tank in black to cover up some scratches. I'm not worried about getting a rack fitted to it though! If anyone can identify from the pic, that is appreciated. Anyone got something similar, either a project or in good con they would like to sell? PM me the details please. Thanks, Shaun

Now sorted, but happy to exchange messages with anyone who is familiar with these. I've bought a couple of projects so might need some help!

Hi Shaun
I'm a newbie to this site, have just restored a 77 d 250 air cooled as like most people went from the candy blue to the good ole Lenny Roberts yellow, I'm now on the case of a rd200 Dx I've had all the frame an parts powder coated, engine is is the process of being rebuilt after new bearings and con rods, decided to leave it on standard bore at the moment. I've found that parts are getting very hard to find now, bits like blue high beam light that sits in the head light shell, I'm sure with looking on various sites I'll come across one.

Dale Dale, glad you are on the case with your new RD200. I managed to get one but its a later model than I was after as got the alloy wheels and i'm after the spoke wheel version. Thought I'd got one but turned out to be a ringer! Grrr. Will work on the one I've got over winter, but if anyone has a wire wheel version for sale please get back to me. Cheers Shaun

Hi Shaun if you need help I have a lot of experience with the RD200 DX, I sold one last year after refurbing it and tuning it, i had rd250 lc carbs on it and a pair of hydro formed expansion chambers, It was fast, great little bikes, I seem to remember a shaunthe2nd on acrd, anyway glad to help if i can with any info I can remember, get a genuine manual for rd, the early manual is the same spec and get the RD200DX supliment, the Haynes manual has wrong info in it, also get a parts list for the part numbers so you can search by part numbers, you can find a lot of stuff by googling partg numbers, Good luck with it, Tony Tony, Thanks for your kind offer. Yes I'm on the ACRD site too. I ended up buying 2 off RD200's. The first one was a non-runner and an '81 version with alloy wheels etc. Has good patina, and just needed some love and the engine/carbs/timing sorting, and a few other jobs (centre stand, brake torque arm, exhaust mounting helicoiling etc) Typically after I bought that, after months and months of looking, the model I really wanted came up so I bought that. This one is a 1977 wire wheel one, originally silver and the exact same model/colour/year as the one I had as a lad. It was advertised as an unfinished project, so needs a lot of work still, but some of the basics have been done already. I've now got the first one running after sorting carbs and timing, and some other cosmetics and intend MOTing it when the weather picks up. I will sell this one on to free up space and funds to concentrate on the '77 model, which is having a no expense spared refurb as that will be a keeper. I'm well on with that, and have all the chromework in for re-doing, the wheels are also getting respoked after chroming. The tank set is at the painters and the seat at the upholsterers. I'm cracking on with the rest of the jobs too, so quite happy with the progress at the moment. I have the Haynes and parts lists etc, and as you say some things seems to differ, and it also seems there was a lot of minor changes between the diferent years/models etc. I've done a few LC's up before, so that has helped my understanding. Appreciate your offer and will be in touch no doubt. Cheers. Shaun

I used to love my little RD200, it went like stink and was a little gem. I remember stripping the engine down and struggling to work out where the starter motor was....
I would have loved to get some decent pipes and carbs on it to see how it go really go.
