Hi folks,
Can anyone advise me of any pitfalls to note whilst carrying out refurbisment of my clockset?. I'm hoping to fit new clock face decals, and paint the needles, so any advice (especially on the best paint for the needles) and opening up the clocks would be very much appreciated.

Buy the new clock dials from Simon Wells instead of the decals, more money but a lot better IMHO ?

Hi You're welcome If I was doing it again I would buy those dial faces that OEB has linked for you. Easier than sticky backed faces. The most delicate part of the job is prising the needles off - be really gentle with them as they can break easily, but apart from that it's fairly straight forward. You'll be glad you did it when they are reassembled Dusty

I did mine and dustys advice was invaluable,my needle flew off and broke when it landed as I did it outside in the summer. I found out the early XT 500 needle is the same and still available I got them on eBay I think they were about £10 each.

I fitted 2 new needles as i broke one when removing, was very stuburn to remove, almost impossible without damaging in my opinion althought i did see in one of the threads a small tool to draw the needle off, this would be the way to go if your using the existing needles, the XT 500 needle is identical, these are what i used and just sprayed the temp pointer with a spray can a similar orange.

I suggest removing the needle with the clock inside a carrier bag as they do fly when they ping off, and i had one snap in half when it landed the other side of the kitchen!
Also use electricians tape on the jaws of your pliers when closing the clock rim up after opening to minimise marks on the clock.
And... just take your time, it's all quite straight forward I think. Good luck.

Simon offers a fitting service for £30 for the pair if you buy the backing plates off him (£45), for the sake of £75 if your not sure I'd just get Simon to do them for you, job done !

Hello Anyone knows where can I find the rubber cover for the trip reset on a 31k ypvs 83 bike? The rubber boot around the reset button isn’t available as a separate part, best sourced from a damaged top cover. I might have a good one in my spares box.

You can use a blind rubber plug for the reset button boot. I normally get an assortment from an autojumble (remember them !), and make a small hole just big enough for the reset shaft to pass through. They have a grooved outer edge so it fits either side of the casing of the instrument. Dusty
