They sound to have improved since issue 1. My LC was in, promised all sorts, received nowt. Sort of spoiled things for me, never bought the mag since, and doubt I ever will.
This comment will be deleted by Norbo soon, he doesn't allow negative comments about this mag, for some reason of his own.

That is a shame, I can only assume things must have been chaotic for the first issue. Everybody at PSB has been professional and helpful, I can't praise them enough.

Thanks Alex, it still doesn't seem real, the article is first class. I would have liked a couple of engine build photo's for people that don't visit this Forum and haven't seen the build thread. There must be a number of people who bought the mag wanting to know how it was done. The decals were made by Image Works. Mark Cordwell paints, then Image Works make and fit the decals (exactly to order), and then Mark lacquers the paint set. Mark is well organised and a pleasure to deal with.

Heard nothing but great stories about Mark Cordwell. I have a client's bike coming in soon, I will get in touch with him and see if he can beat the quote I got from a local guy, his prices are insane. I only used him once so far, to lacquer a tank, he said it would be a drink. Must be a total piss head as he charged me Β£100!!
And thanks for the Image Works tip I will contact them about a decal idea I have.

I've had very little time to work on the triple, but finally did some "man hours" in the "man cave".
I had the centre cylinder re-welded and checked it held pressure. I figured my next problem is replacing the centre base gasket (I always change them if a barrel is disturbed) as the new gasket will be uncompressed, while the two outer base gaskets are compressed. These outer gaskets were also seated with a thin smear of Hylomar, so the cylinders shouldn't move.
So, to compress the middle base gasket, I cut up some copper tube and bolted the barrel down using head bolts/washers.
SDC11518
I checked with a steel rule that all was flat, but there was a tiny step between 1 and 2 cylinders. I can only assume this is cause of the gas escape pointed out by Tobyjugs. I hand lapped all three cylinders once the bolts could come out and the cylinder was set in position.
SDC11520
Permatex applied (I also annealed the head gaskets) and a five stage tightening sequence had the top end back together. I pressure tested the water system - First test with my leakdown bungs in place, it held 6PSI for 1/2 hour. Then with the leakdown bungs removed, no loss of pressure for 1/2 hour, so that proves water passageways to cylinders are sealed
SDC11521
Next the clutch slip-
I then took the clutch cover off and saw the clutch mushroom had NO freeplay, this was a surprise, there was no play in clutch actuator. This was set to 1/8th of a turn back - it's as if the clutch plates have compressed and removed the freeplay. So I made up some 1mm shims to tension the springs a touch more, (remember I'm using FZ600 springs) and then readjusted the clutch freeplay.
Carbs, radiator and exhausts back on. I used high temp silicone on the exhaust collars
The bike will be filled of fluids once I get back from holiday I'm feeling fairly confident that all the niggles are sorted and hope to get some miles done before the Ace CafΓ© in September.
Cheers, Mark

Hey happy birthday Mark mate. It'll be great to see you and the bike at the Ace so hopefully it doesn't conflict with Cadwell park.

Cheers chaps, I had a great day. Sunday got even better when a coil cover came up on Ebay for not too many "beer tokens" on a buy it now. It's been one of those parts that I've struggled to get at reasonable money, and is one of the last of the hard parts to find to complete the RD700's shopping list. I'll start a build thread soon.
Cheers all, Mark

Congratulations a well deserved magazine article. I am very keen to see your RD 700 take shape, I am guessing it is an air cooled, but just as eager to see how a LC is done. Thanks for posting.

The RD700 will be an LC, 4 cylinder. 4 cylinder LC's have been done a few times before, and probably easier than the triple to do.
Cheers, Mark

Looking forward to your next build , if itβs half as good as this one it will be stunning and really enjoyed reading about the build.
Will it look like a standard lc like your last one?
