...well done Mark, you deserve it after the time and effort you put in. After the recent thing about Britains best loved bikes In MCN, which as we all know was the LC, its a no brainer that your 550 LC will win ! Best of luck, but you wont need the luck ! cheers, Steven.

OK, I kept this quiet (only Dusty knew), but I entered the triple for Practical Sportsbike's "special build of the year". The editor phoned me today and said the triple has made the top 10. The bike will be in Peterborough for the photo shoot on March 17th - to say I'm a bit excited is such an understatement . I'll try to take a few photo's if they let me, and post them up.
I'm well happy ,
Cheers, Mark (still got a silly grin on my face) I can see why it'd be the cherry on top but it doesn't really matter what any jerno come judge thinks Mark, it's the dogs and a credit to you, end of Pal.

I'm Saturday 11am, so hope to see you there mate. My triple, while heavily modified, looks very standard and so might not be "trick enough". It might be your 421 that appeals to the wider audience, but I hope we both do well - I'm happy enough with making top 10! I also know of another bike that has made the top 10, but I feel it's not my news to tell (they are not on this Forum).
Good luck Bazzer, hope to see you there, if not at the show in May for the prize giving
Cheers, Mark

Once again thanks lads risolc, Dusty, Tobyjugs, Yogi, Mr Kipling, Donkeychomp, Steven, cbm, Bazzer5115, Sbscnor and dono, you all typify this Forum - generous in thoughts and comments. I don't underestimate, how much you have all contributed to the triple build (Everyone on the Forum). Dusty, Yogi, OEB, Gary Eyrey to name a few that have supplied parts, so many mates that have gone "the extra mile" to get work done for me, all the great comments - there are too many to name. I genuinely feel the bike is a product of the forum, you all encourage, problem solve, offer advice and help in so many ways. I am often truly humbled by comments, so a big thank you to all.
Mark

Thanks Rigga, I was fairly sure it would make the top 10, but only because of the interest shown on here! It's quite difficult to be subjective about your own work. I also think that the standard look of the bike might "not make it the right sort of special" in the eyes of some people. However, I'm so pleased that it top 10, and know the members here will get behind Baz and myself when it's time to vote.

PRACTICAL SPORTSBIKES PHOTO SHOOT
My timeslot for the photo shoot was 11am Saturday 17th March. The editor (Jim Moore), phoned me and then Emailed the details of the location in Peterborough. So, about 100 miles from where I live, weather bad, I decided to leave early to allow for any "potential banana skins". Jim said the location was remote - he wasn't wrong! The houses and barns are so spread out, you can barely see the "next door neighbour". So on arrival (about an hour early) Paul (my son) and I unload the bike after meeting Jim and Alan (technical editor). Then I had one of those "what are you doing moments". You know the ones - like chatting up a girl in a VD clinic. I lock the van - I'm in the middle of a gigantic field with virtually nothing in sight! I unlock the van figuring I can trust the 8 people around (in total, including Paul and myself). Anyway, the PSB people were fantastic (I'm not going to reveal the bike before me - a beautiful work of art), but the shoot was not how I imagined. The barn was cold and very dark, but had facilities to make tea; Alan was tea boy .
Jim asked loads of questions and just kept writing, the photographer must have taken around 300 pictures in 3 different areas, with a white backdrop, the rough looking walls and then final close up details. The photographer had lights with a material screen (in front) around the bike and they lit up with every click of the camera button. He also lay on the floor taking a sequence of pictures every 8" or so - all the people were like "a well oiled machine".
Paul took these pictures (thanks Paul)
SDC11479
SDC11480
SDC11484
SDC11493
SDC11498
So a big thank you to Jim and Alan - the bike will be in next months issue of Practical Sportsbikes, when the voting starts
Cheers, Mark

Awesome Mark, absolutely awesome Bike looks fantastic, truly worthy of all the praise it's had and will be getting in the future. The arty backgrounds will look great in the pics. Think they did the same theme last year. I thought Jim would love a well modified Lc Cant wait for the next issue now. I'll have to get you to autograph it !! Well done mate Dusty

The LC is lighter as well, so I think it will be quicker than the H1. I'm sure the brakes and handling will be a touch better as well

Good luck Mark - is the title the prize or is there some beer tokens on offer as well Davey mate, yes - beer tokens are in the form of Ā£1000 for the winner. The prize money is handed over to the winner at the MCN Festival 19/20th May where all 10 bikes will be displayed. Venhill put up the prize money, and voting takes place on line as well as over the weekend at the Festival. Jim (PSB editor) told me, the winner of the first competition (this is the third) won by 7 votes!!!

Good luck with the vote. As we are all aware the LC was voted most iconic bike by MCN recently. You have built upon that and produced a one off. Credit to you , well done.

Well I got to agree with you Mark,Iām back from my photo shoot, the guys from practical sportsbikes are a great bunch of guys, very knowledgable and genuine motorcycle enthusiasts. Seen the bike before mine, art on wheels, with a turbo to boost!!And the bike after mine, the other end of the spectrum, plain and simple(based on a 50cc moped)but looked right from all angles and looked justārightā. So a mixed bag of bikes in the final 10. Been an eventful weekend for me,the wife and my 2 Yorkshire terriers. Left Plymouth and drove to Hull(340 miles)towing our caravan to exchange it for a smaller model as we both semi retired now and off touring France and Spain in September for a few months(my speed triple in the back of my van is coming with us,to enjoy some of the 320 days of sunshineš) Unfortunately the caravan we were going to exchange had some damage, which the dealer didnāt notice,so we couldnāt do the exchange š Wonāt be ready for a few weeks now. Drove from Hull to a caravan park near the photo shoot.(2 hour drive),then the weather came in! Stuck in muddy/snow covered field, pipes frozen in the caravan,my old van wouldnāt start without help from a shot of āeasy startā. No t.v. Reception,no wi-fi connection, Canāt travel back to Plymouth until at least tomorrow because the weather/snow has shut a section of M5 near where we live. The father in law keeping us up to date with the weather in Devon,(not looking good)but itās another night in the caravan with frozen pipes,no t.v. No wi-fi Still mustnāt grumble,as they say! Baz

Cheers Phil and Penno, I wanted to keep the iconic parts and look of an LC For me that's the paint work, clocks, twin horns, radiator cover, seat, footrest hangers and footrests. I would have liked the italic wheels, but I knew they would be out of my price range to have made. I think Mick Abbey has done a stunning job on the exhausts - he managed to make what was in my head, from several pictures and notes that I gave him.
