Hi My back wont - My L5/S1 disc has a tear and the fluid has gone. L5/L4 has flattened too, hence constant back ache and limitation on movement My knee Mri shows no tears, but a 1.3cm wear gap in the cartledge allowing the bones to rub against each other. Basically arthritis of the back and now the knee !! Working on them now is becoming difficult, thanks to the knee mainly, but I'm hoping it will improve enough to allow me to kneel on it, but not yet. I did manage to kick start the Lc hybrid last week though, but it did hurt to do it. Still, the knee has improved since I did it nearly 6 weeks ago, so I'm hopeful another few weeks will see it better still Dusty

I hate getting old. Cricked my neck last week and this was BAD, giving me blinding headaches every time I moved. It's cleared up now and today I had my physio at Ashford hospital. The girl there is a genius. My back has vastly improved and so are my knees. Has your GP not referred you there Dusty? Might be worth asking him.

Hi Alex I have an ex Brigade mate who is now an Osteopath in Laleham - usually see him a couple of times a year when I get a flare up. My experience of Physio at hospital falls far short I'm afraid, so although I've been referred to Ashford, I will be paying Alan a visit instead. Hope you are feeling better Dusty

I wonder now how much wear we caused to ourselves riding bikes, playing football etc in our younger days 😳. All the best for a good recovery Pal. bezzer

Hi Iain The biggest effect on my body was 31 years in the Fire Service. Awkward, heavy lifting takes it's toll. They used to give us tuition on safe lifting - manual handling - but that only works in an ideal world, not the emergency world I'm afraid. I'm not moaning about it - I loved the job and would do it al over again, but at 51 I feel too young to contemplate not riding my bikes much. But, the knee has improved a lot - just hope it continues to do so. I never give in though, so I get on with it - just a bit harder to do what should be simple jobs. Good luck with your op mate Dusty

Been over a year since I've touched this bike, apart from turning the engine over periodically on the kick start. 2 other Lc's have been and gone in that time, and now, with a little bit of space (for the time being), I thought I would get some jobs done. The CDI and PV box were sited on a plate in place of the oil tank. I'm not a fan of premix, and would like to re instate the oil tank and a pump, so I removed the plate today; 20190406_103043 by dusty miller, on Flickr So the new plan is to fit both these boxes into the battery box; 20190406_110851 by dusty miller, on Flickr I will mod the box so they can fit in, but allow a battery to be re fitted in the future if necessary. A small Lithium will live in the tail unit (hopefully !) Reg/rectifier and fuse box will live in their normal place. I also need to get a good Lc loom - I used the one destined for this bike on the semi hybrid. I have an F2 loom and an Lc loom I can cut for the correct connectors which will help. There are other small jobs to do, but this will be the start Dusty

Oil tank cleaned ands reinstated; 20190411_182116 by dusty miller, on Flickr I managed to fit both the CDI and the Pv box into the battery box fairly easily. I've checked a Lithium battery will fit in the tail unit - which it will- but I will need to move the recessed rear light out a bit more; 20190411_182024 by dusty miller, on Flickr I'm also planning on reducing the width of the Renthal bars - they are too wide at the mo; 20190411_182035 by dusty miller, on Flickr I will move the controls inwards until it looks right and then see how much needs cutting off the ends. Arrow is going to rebuild an oil pump for me so I can get back on autolube, and as the casing will need to come off I'm planning a different case with a window. Specials are never finished !! Dusty

Hi Alan The clock faces are standard as far as I am aware - I never changed them, I did take the clocks apart to clean thoroughly though. Avoid the sticky decals and get the rigid dial faces if you are changing them. The Renthals are 758's. Gonna cut an inch at least off each end I think. Good old DVLA !! Hope you are enjoying the bike Dusty

Dusty The renthals are the same as on my Blue LC they are slightly too big, chopping them might be a good idea ! I think the standard bars on my Suzuki X7 look just about right will measure them to compare. Bike is fine not had much time with it work, work maybe next week get out on it Also been in mancave on the vapor blast cabinet starting to clean some parts for my up and coming Hybrid Build IMG_5565 by alan foster, on Flickr IMG_5568 by alan foster, on Flickr Alan

Blasted parts look fantastic Alan I'd love to have a set up in my shed ! Yea, Renthal bars are too wide. I will move switchgear inwards until it looks right and then cut off what's left - easily an inch each side, maybe more. I've got a Cyberdyne clutch case with a window coming at some point. The seller is getting it powdercoated for me rather than painted. I thought I would bling up the pressure plate so it looks nice, and will get some of Norbo's anodised washers to finish it off; 20190412_202837 by dusty miller, on Flickr Dusty

Flatted it first with a foam sanding block, then approx. 10 minutes on the wheel, and it came up nice. Worth the effort I think Dusty

Hi Shaun I used a combination of whatever we had under the sink ! Cillet Bang, Cif, Powerspray and Bleach. Allied with a toothbrush - make sure you use the wife's and not your own , and an assortment of rag tied on the end of a piece of coat hanger wire to get to awkward bits inside. With patience and time they can come up pretty good. A job for those long winter nights Hth Dusty

Fallen out of love with this a bit to be honest, and very nearly swapped it last week 3 Lc hybrids in 5 years hasn't helped, and the Café racer bike has really got me excited about doing something different. But I will persevere, if only to get it ready to sell later on. With that in mind, I have a list of jobs that need doing and parts that need buying. I swapped the Lc switchgear off this bike and fitted the Pv switches from the Café racer. This will make wiring a lot easier on this bike, and I'm getting an F2 loom from Norbo. I have an F2 ignition barrel which I will fit too. Only mis match will be the Lc clock wiring, so I found an old Lc loom down the shed today, and luckily the instrument wiring blocks were intact on the loom; 20191017_153336 by dusty miller, on Flickr Once cleaned up I can plug these in to the wiring from the clocks, and then add new connectors that will fit the Pv loom to save any bodges. I've changed my mind regards the Cdi and Pv controller living in the battery box, and will move them - probably to the tail again which will mean repositioning the tail light and extending the wiring. Again, a spare F2 loom will help keep it all correct. All brakes need bleeding, and I need a braided line for the rear. I pinched the clutch cable for the Café racer, but have since found another genuine one, so will fit that. Carbs are cleaned and ready but need to fit the loom first. I've got a good Yam fuel tap to fit. I still plan on reducing the width of the bars too. I've bought new wheel rim decals to replace the rubbish, non sticky R&G decals. I need to crimp the connectors onto the silicon leads for the ignition coil, and luckily I picked up the correct tool from Kempton some time back for a fiver ! Nothing major really, but it's sat unloved for too long. Hope to update soon Dusty

Cheers Jon First few jobs today. Fitted the Pv ignition barrel to the top yoke - not a 5 minute job as the headlight shell and clocks had to be removed to get to the 2 bolts; 20191018_133355 by dusty miller, on Flickr The mounting holes on the barrel had been modded previously, so all bolted up easily once I could get at them. Clutch cable fitted too. Not sure which model Pv this was from, but was initially too long. I intended to fit an engine end adjuster anyway, but the cable length meant this was essential. I found an unknown cable in a box of spares with an adjuster on one end that had been factory fitted. Cable was old and knacked so I cut the nipple off so I could save the adjuster, then cut a groove down the middle with my angle grinder; 20191018_112514 by dusty miller, on Flickr This enabled me to fit my cable to the adjuster, and by adjusting both ends I've got a nice smooth clutch action; 20191018_122007 by dusty miller, on Flickr Good enough for now anyway. I removed the Cdi and Pv controller from the battery box, so will search for a new home for those. I pick up a new F2 loom from Norbo tomorrow so that will help decide their final destination. Finally, pushed her outside for a pic; 20191018_134052 by dusty miller, on Flickr Dusty
